If I wanted to carry fire while walking for 4-6 hours then how would I do it without risk of burning myself and being fairly sure it didn't go out? Anyone tried it?

I guess a chunk of piptoporus betulinus (razor strop) might do it, with reduced air entry to keep it from burning too fast, but what might be the best formula?

Coals that are bedded in within a quantity of fine ash, and therefore have restricted access to oxygen, last for hours and hours. If one was to scoop up the remants of a dying hearth fire into a bark container, the still live coals can be carried for many miles and then blown back to life at the new camp. This method has an advantage over carrying a live coal in a fungus since little or no smoke is given off from the glowing charcoal.
