Looks like the old SAS bergen to me. Could be wrong mind. Have you been to the boot sales again and got that for something daft like 40p?

It's a GS Bergen

Issiued in the 70s and 80s

looks to have slightly unusual shoulder straps ..

Does the topflap close with ties?

yep, thats it, it has a long pocket in the middle.

its well made, but sadly the frame is too heavy for sensible use.

it cost me 40p...

What's condition like? I understand that the surplus chain is dry, and there's still demand. You might be able to make a 10,000% profit.

The black plastic fastenings on the side pockets and the shoulder straps look different to the normal GS bergans I have seen. It's possible that it's a rare early issue GS bergan - I'm pretty sure someone would pay at least £50 for it on ebay, so for 40p you got a bargain.

Deffo the GS Bergan.

I've still got mine, issued mid 80's, and used it recently on the jaunt described by Andybysea in the thread "7 on the beach".

Great bit of kit but a bit on the small side TBH.
