build a umiack "not expensive"

last week with a friend we build a umick. this boat are very simple to made and not expensive !
the wood 50€
the tarp is coton 9€
black vernish 13€
we don't use rope but screw ( we have juste 3 days for make it )

the plans come from a french magazine "le chasse marée" 10 years ago and the wood is a basical construction wood "pine"

How does it handle with the flat bottom? Is it easy to steer?

must be round the woods so as not to tear the tarp. and yes it's well to steer. the keel must be straight

Looks like great fun and once you have the chassis if you do damage the cover it's simple and easy to replace! Love it

I have a boat already but I'd love to give it a go one day.

in a good storage it's ok for many years ! in a hard use (hahahah ) maybe one month every days,It depends on the use and quality of the sheet to use. it is quite possible induction epoxy on the sheet, for more resistance (google translate)

Fancy an aluminium canoe, bet you could design one around that plan.

i build one curragh 10 years ago, it's easy too ! (if you have somme woodwork tools band saw ....) )
