If it's any consolation, I used to play (be addicted to) "Risk".

Just having a laugh mate, it's been a week of seven days as they say, and it's now Friday.

I'm off on a bimble tomorrow and possibly Sunday, and I'm in a relaxed mood.

Just got back from hospital. I've dislocated my left knee for the third time in 4 years. Have to wait till monday to find out if i've got lasting ligament damage, which might mean I can't join the army but most of all i'm going to be so bored! Not allowed to do sport and all I have to do is revise....any suggestions on a bushy project to start to keep me occupied?

Sorry to hear the bad news Will, knee injuries have stopped many a military career before it really starts.

Several of the guys I was with when in the RAF Regt suffered knee injuries and it was in a lot of cases the thin edge that saw them leave or should I say medically discharged. I would guess that these days that they are going to be even more selective when they are recruiting, three knee injuries in four years isn't a good omen I'm afraid to say.

You might have to get it seriously sorted before they even consider you fit for duty, after all it may not just be your life on the line if it dislocates out on the patrols in Afghanistan.

So start building up strength in the legs and especially the knees, and remember the "Basic" section of Army training is much the same for every trade you might think off.

oh and for the record I, like most kids, tried war hammer for about a month when I was eleven. I quite enjoyed putting the bits together and I spent hours doing it, however I decided that rather than paint the bits I would use them for target practice with the air rifle........it was worth it!

Sounds to me like an ideal opportunity to specialize on a bit of upper body PT . Plenty of time to focus on Push-ups , Chins , Pull-ups , Dips, Tri Dips, Sit-ups and Leg Raises you lucky, lucky man!!

And swimming!! How could i forget swimming!!! Plenty of opps to Just use the upper body for Cardio requirements , just cause your legs are FUBAR at the moment .
I have ( somewhere ) the Potential Officers P.T Training guide for the Royal Marines , happy to send a copy up , plenty of targets and goals in that for a motivated youngster.

Anyway P.M if interested.

So did I.

If you're going to be left with a dodgy knee for the rest of your life (no need to thank me for the cheery outlook) you might want to rely on a stick like I do on occassions due to a dodgy ankle. You won't always need it but it's peace of mind having it with you.

Those wee jumps across burns and step downs etc., are made a lot easier.

A stick or staff project would come in handy.

Sounds like a good opportunity to learn how to appreciate the simple (yet increasingly rare) aspect of learning to enjoy your own company without distractions (iPods, PSP's, playlists etc).

Relish the time that you have 'spare'.

That apart, sorry to hear about your knee. Heat pads may help speed up the recovery process by providing localized heat, if you PM an address, I'll send you some to see if they help.
