I have young kids and encourage them to get out as much as possible. OK we have a TV and the usual XBOX and DS's etc, etc but we have managed a good balance I think. Both are fit and healthy but also have a good knowledge of modern technology too.
Very prudent.

I liked the article as a whole, though it was his usual tameness. I get the feeling for all hes done, hes never got quite away from that kid.

Good article, I like him more the more i read, I don't think he is a tame man at all, met him on a course, and whilst he helped me with carving a spoon, he talked very passionately about the need to protect the knife as a tool, very cool bloke, I however made an inappropriate joke and he didn't stick around long, Goodwin though was pissing himself,
I'd say it's more common sense that being prudent. As Mr Mears himself explains the outdoors isn't as scary or dangerous as some make it out to be.
Picture the scene, its evening, my two new friends and i are sitting round our little camp fire working on our spoons, when a chap steps in and sit next to me and says " looking good, but i dont think you should be carving the side profile till youve finished the shape, Here let me show you what I mean" It was Ray who was comming visiting all the groups for a chat(and a young lads cattail roots) so I give my spoon shaped log, and while he is carving whoping chips from it he says" You know i shouldnt do this, during the last prim tech course i offerd to help a lady with the tillering of here bow, she had put days of work into it, and i went and snapped it, she was distraught, so i had to give her one" you can see whats comming cant you, I bit my lip having already been labele a **** taking git, couldnt resist so i piped up " And a bow" i even nunged him in the ribs, he didnt even miss a beat and carried on with my spoon, I looked across the fire to see Ray G crying and hoding his mouth to stop laughing out loud(i think it was at me than the joke, as my face showed how much of a prat i felt) when Ray had finished, he gave me my now completed spoon and said "dont let them take the knife David, its our tool, and it should remain that way" and wounderd of to have a cuppa with Dan, he also told us a story involving young Dan and an incounter with a lion, brilliant, but i can only tell you that face to face as it requires sound effects,
Ray Mears presented a corporate safety/project management video for my employer. It wasn't particularly interesting.
