And the nominations for "The least bushcrafty thread ever written are........"

Following recent discussions about making soap, as requested here is my method for making bath fizzies. My daughter loves these - like little "bath bombs" and easy to make with less scary caustic stuff involved

Ingredients

1561917114_e19d53bc4c_m.jpg

2oz of cocoa butter (get it from soap making suppliers or E-bay)
2 oz of bicarbonate of soda
1 oz of powdered citric acid (homebrew shops or pharmacies)
3 tablespoons of corn starch
a few drops of food colour (optional)
6 drops of essential oil (I'm using lavender)

The first step is to weigh out the ingredients - do this into small bowls first as this is a quick process

Prepare a mould for your fizzies - a rubber ice cube tray is perfect - give it a quick spray / wipe with oil first.

Put together a "double boiler" (a glass bowl in a large pan is fine)

Gently melt the cocoa butter

Remove the bowl from the heat and add the bicarbonate of soda, citric acid and corn starch and beat till you get a blended paste.

Add six drops of essential oi and a few drops of food colour if you wish and beat again

Spoon into the mould and pack firmly

Put the mould into the freezer for a couple of hours and then turn out

Drop one or two under the hot tap and watch them fizz and dissolve for a pleasant relaxing bath.

Not "Bushcraft" but another thing to do with common ingredients

Nice one Red, might have a go at this tomorrow. Could you use anything as a substitute for the cocoa butter? :)

Fraid not - its easy to come by but do use the real stuff not cocoa butter cream. It comes in solid lumps that feel a bit like hard butter. I picked up a load on the bay of Evil a while back. Its a good fat base for soap making and I stumbled over this recipe and had to give it a go. You don't get a lot (about 8 ice cubes worth with this quantity) but its a fun thing to mess about with

Another quality thread Red! (I'm a poet and didn't know it).

Just ordered some ingredients online and hope to receive them in the next couple of days. Should be a bit of craic messing about making different smellies. Just the excuse the wife needs to have a nice long soak as official tester.

Disappointed! I read the title of the thread from the main forum and it said "Pictorial guide to Bath" so I thought it would be about the world heritage site in Somerset.. ;)
