Firstly I have nothing to do with either of the following.

Over the weekend of 28/29/30 October (in a couple of weeks)

Probably the two biggest re enactors markets in the UK at the moment will be held. Normally they are held on different weekends but not this autumn . The venues are about 10 miles apart. You can buy leather, wool cloth , Flint and steel, Fire tripods and much , much, much more . :D

So if you live in the Midlands or fancy a day out I recommend a trip :) . You can even see chaps and chapesses in full contact sword fighting

Meant to pm Wayland and say I'd like to try to visit; still waiting on a route/timetable discussion with my friend. I'll be in touch.

Hi James, It is good to put face and voice to folk isn't it? If we can manage it it'd be good to meet up. I'll let you know when things are finalised.

Anybody else in the area going to be around the markets? Lots of leather, steel, wool, bow type bits & pieces.... :D

Cheers,
Toddy

I have booked the day off in order to go to the re-enactors market on Friday 28th. I usually end up spending a small fortune on leather and fabrics...

I expect I'll get there about lunchtime on Friday.

Looks interesting.
I always fancied a plain leather jerkin like the ones issued in WW1 and perhaps a canvas water bottle like the cowboys have. Trouble is i'd probable cripple the back of the polo with a big cast iron pot and some fire dogs etc.

Hope you make it back to the North meet Toddy. ;)

Thanks Wayland,
I'm hoping (fingers crossed smiley needed :) ) that we'll get there for a fair chunk of Sunday but Ian's working at Urquhart Castle on the Monday so it's a wait and see. It would be excellent to meet up, say hello to friends and put faces to names.
Thinking about Saturday evening too, but knowing a lot of the traders at the events we might just end up socialising down there and leave early Sunday. It's a bit up in the air.

I know that mobiles won't work at the campsite so I can't really see how to get in touch. We'll see. :)

Cheers,
Toddy

Hi Toddy - I'll be at the re-enactors market at Connexions on Friday; should be there about lunchtime-ish, and will spend most of my time lurking around the fabric and leather stalls, although I'm also after another frock coat pattern... :)

Recognition???? Any ideas? Maybe try for a certain time at a named stall?

Could be tough trying to recognise each other! I can try to find a picture of myself but that may not help either. I can PM you my mobile number if that'll help - you can text me when you get there...?
