A melodeon eh? and how is that any better? To be fair, I was making reference to my neighbours - you hadn't been implicated - until now of course!

Since this is the second time this type of reply has come up I'd just like to point the thread back up on topic. I asked not whether anyone was a gentleman, nor if I should consider myself a gentleman. What I asked was what does being a gentleman mean to you , that means to you personally what values do you associate with the label?

I agree Fred, well said. I think if a chap is a good egg then he is a Gentleman.
