I really enjoyed that.
It was a good craft to start with, since I think wood work is what most of us get up to.
Am I the only one, or does anyone else who watched it now want a pole lathe and try to make a chair?
Just about the best thing on TV at the moment. I'm glad that it's an hour long - 1/2 hour wouldn't have been enough to give the programme any narrative or to allow a train of thought to develop.
I'll be watching this every week. Let's just hope it gets to a second series.

If it can get any better it will be utterly sensational. I was glued to it, even went thirsty as I didn't make a cuppa, It was brill. I love the greenwood workin' init.
I'm hopeless at names, are the instructor and "the best green woodworker" members on here?
No I'm not being facetious

nice program, beautiful craftsmanship, well paced and hosted by monty don the demi god.

The only drawback was the master chairmakers teaching skills. He nearly had that poor lady in tears. Well done to Monty for stepping in and giving her the encouragement she needed to finish her chair.

goodjob

I did like the look of the Bodgers' shelter. The shears at the front that pulled the sheet out, is that also used for propping the pole of the lathe up? I notice they used bungee/inner tube power instead of the traditional pole.

I think she would have given up if Monty hadn't given her a pep talk. He seems to get the best out of people, I like his programmes.

what was this weeks one like on thatching worth a look ?

It was an enjoyable hour but probably not as relevant to us - am not at all supprised it is a 4 year apprenticeship and thankfully the 3 trainees shown realise that too now. would be great to have a go but can see it is not one of those crafts that you can just pick up in a day or two.

I'm now looking forward to the blacksmithy one :D

I enjoyed the thatching one, I have used reeds in the past in the construction of a shelter, although I doubt it would have kept the rain off! The pitch was incredibly steep and over a leaf litter shelter so I think the combination would have worked very well, but I never got to test it fully.
