Early signs of a chilly winter

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
They used to use the trees laden with fruit/berries as a sign of a bad winter, and this year the trees are very heavy with fruit/berries, I guess being young we can look at it as a fun time to have a cold and hard winter...Share holders in energy companies like it as well, even those whose pension funds are tied up with those energy companies, will be rubbing their hands with glee at a cold hard winter, sadly though there will be those whose £200 fuel allowance and cold weather payments won't be enough to stop them dying this winter.

So, instead of heading out to have fun in the bad weather straight away, how about checking in on any elderly or disabled neighbours we might have and make sure they are cosy and warm and getting hot food and fluids in them over the winter, then hopefully the last warmth their bodies feel won't be the flames of the cremators.

Have a fun winter...

Article from 2011.

Parts of Britain always get snow in October!

Trust the Daily Fail. They preach about internet porn and then as soon as a celeb flashes her undies getting out a car they publish the pics.

Oops, something very wrong with my news feed lol.

Well one can still hope :)

I would add that whilst i am in favour of cold winters and enjoying them, I dont want to see dead grannies in winter or any other season. This is however the sub zero forum so it should be expected that cold = fun

I like snow. At the weekends. But I also like clear roads during the week. I don't like my condensate pipe freezing up and my boiler shutting down.

If I didn't work it may be a different story

Everything in moderation I guess.

Folks this is a "SUB ZERO" section of BCUK for people planning and doing trips into the cold :hatscarf:,,,

I for one am not thinking of OAPs or home fuel bills when I plan a trip :(... If that makes me a bad man so be it ...

Some people could suck the fun out of a Roman orgy,,,, Let people get on with it .

I love going stalking on a snowy day. The tracking is easier, there's something quite romantic about a rifle shot muffled by thick snow. Fried kidneys and sweet tea for a field brekkie. And then on the way home, you never know if you might meet a damsel in vehicular distress, waiting for rescue by some devilishly handsome deerstalker in his 4x4.

The dog loves snow too, he usually starts by attacking it and ends by rolling in it, making 'snow dogs'.

Then in the evening you retire to bed, saving on heating costs by the presence of said, and now very snow-washed clean, dog.

Every year 'bout this time we have predictions of a harsh winter to come & what do we get ? ...a mild damp squib with a cold snap at the end......if they keep repeating it, sooner or later the meteorologists are bound to get it right....laws of probability & all that.

Call me a doubting Thomas if you like but I'll believe it when I see it. :sun:

well perhaps as the original article is out of date a mod could close this thread.

who'd have thought looking forward to winter would have such huge moral implications.

Never ceases to amaze me how threads can get flipped into such strange tangents on this forum.

You mean you're surprised that we like to talk about the weather? - I saw the thread akin to "Winters coming" - discuss. Didn't mean to pee in anyone's coffee.
