What to do with apple

I certainly have and it's lovely
Hugo also gave me some apple wood to make my first spoon - it was pretty tough but made a nice utensil
I've also got a burl, not massive, but I'm unsure what to do with it. Should I knock the bark off now and let it dry out. Or see if I can make a shallow dish out of it.
THe spiral of mesh keeps the sawdust smouldering at a good rate allowing a good cold smoke as it doesn't generate heat - the burn moves round the spiral from the tealight to the middle. It does a good job. If the sawdust lights it creates too mcuh heat.
Yeah, I'm going that way too. Not done any real carving before, so we'll see how it goes.
No promises at this stage mate as my other half has got some plans for bits. But if I do have a bit about that spare you can have it for postage, which I don't think will be cheap on its own. It will wight about a kilo!

The main trunk wasn't that big and the branches were.a bit twisty. Didn't get as much as I thought. I would, but enough to keep busy.
Smoking cheese you need to cool smoke - best/cheapest method (that I can think of) - a box and one of these- a Pro-Q cold smoke generator - although they're not cheap (nearly £40). BUT a metal seive and a tealight & some spple sawdust would probably do the same job.
Apple wood is a lovely smoke flavour - I use chunks/chips in my hot smoker, adds a great but light flavour to a smoked bit of meat.

You could jerry rig one of those with a kitchen sieve I reckon.

THere's another company selling it with a smoke bx - but at another £24 for a cardboard box & a couple of grills I thought you'd prefer to make your own - design's not bad....

It'd produce the smoke - only risk would bbe a fire in the sieve - OK for fish (just might cook it a bit), but cheese might just make a mess with the excess heat.
Hugh F-W made one with a big tin can for a firebox and a length of aluminium drier exhaust tube feeding into a barrel, the heat escapes the exhaust before entering the smoker - then flare ups are less of a problem.

If you can be bothered looking at knots etc. you could make a guitar from it. As apple trees generally grow slow, the grain is really tight, which is good.
