Proof again that only the good die young. A genuine guy who spoke from the heart. His enthousiasm & naivety were very refreshing. BcUK will be a duller & darker place without him.

Drew you will be missed my friend, we will make that spoon you wanted when we next meet. The moot will not be the same without you, take it easy where ever you are.

My thoughts go to Drews family and everyone who knew him.

I knew Drew for a few years and half the time he annoyed the bajazus out of me, half the time he exhausted me by his enthusiasm and energy, half the time he had me admiring his ability to take a joke, half the time I could have a sensible conversation with him, half the time he had me in tears laughing.
Time was always full around Drew and his was the biggest heart around and now the tears running down my face are not of laughter but of real sadness that he will never again exasperate me!
I am going to miss you mate!
All my thoughts are with his friends and family - and anyone that this unique spirit touched, we do not know how lucky we were to share time with him.

I first met Drew two years back at the Moot. I had little contact with him but certainly noticed his presence; nice guy I thought, he just needs to learn how to relax! We met again at last year's Moot and he made time to speak to me about some photos or such that I'd posted on this site, I was somewhat put out by the fact that he was more interested in my post and had more enthusiasm for my trip report than I did! However his enthusiasm was infectious and he soon taught me that it was not he who was at fault for being over-enthusiastic but that the fault lay with me for being a sullen git. Drew showed us how to live life at a fast forward pace.
He would often (unintentionally) highlight the shortcomings of others simply by being devoid of such shortcomings himself. If this caused annoyance then the truth is probably that you are merely annoyed at your self for not being more like him. So thanks Drew for helping to steer me onto a better, brighter path, you were unburdened by the false machismo that troubles so many of us. I will celebrate your life this coming weekend on the hill, in the forge and in the pub.

The banks of the Deveron.
Bit stunned. It's odd to show that, having never met him, I still feel a loss through my interactions with him on here.

I'll always smile at his response to my teacher treatment trying to help him with his spelling. Great attitude and a sad loss for his family and friends.

Didn't know him, never met him! Didn't stop me thinking how life can be so short, got back today from a great time in the woods with the family, switched on BCUK, as usual scrolled down and wham!

Put things into perspective, the boys were very quiet for a while, i think it's because they saw mine and Alison's reaction, very difficult to put into words, how it makes you stop think and feel.

I have never been a member of forum's etc , till i discovered this place, and i can honestly say it turned my life around.

So for once, no smart **** remarks, no mickey taking, just at odd moments today, a bit of quiet contemplation.

He sounded just the kind of woodland fool, i would have gelled with, as those who know me, know i am a woodland clown.

Rest in peace.

Although I never met him from his posts he seemed like the sort of guy I'd happily sit down to a beer with and suddenly find the whole evening had shot past.

I am shocked to my core. Please give my condolences and kind thoughts to his family.

I met Drew a few times at the moot and a more kindly soul never struck flint to steel. He was bonkers but kind and sometime so insightful about life it was startling. He is one of my abiding memories of the Moot, let me know when you plan to plant the tree, if nothing else I will make it down for the day.

Drew old chap keep a place by the fire for those of us who have yet to take the long journey. Oh yes, just for the hell of it, instruct who ever is in charge up there on how to use an axe!

As the sun goes down and a the fire crackles I will raise a glass to Drew.

When my brother passed last year we found great solace in poetry that for us said so much, I kept a lot of them and read them often, the tears are still often just a thought away when in a moment of silence we remember him and the good times we had as youngsters.

These two are particularly precious to us, and hope you don't mind me sharing them with you all...

The clock of life is wound but once
The clock of life is wound but once
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour.
To lose one's wealth is sad indeed
To lose one's health is more,
To lose one's soul is such a loss
That no man can restore.
The present is our own,
So live, love, toil with a will
Place no faith in "tomorrow,"
For the clock may then be still.

Feel no guilt in laughter
Feel no guilt in laughter, he'd know how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile that he is not here to share.
You cannot grieve forever; he would not want you to.
He'd hope that you could carry on the way you always do.
So, talk about the good times and the way you showed you cared,
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared.
Let memories surround you, a word someone may say
Will suddenly recapture a time, an hour, a day,
That brings him back as clearly as though he were still here,
And fills you with the feeling that he is always near.
For if you keep those moments, you will never be apart
And he will live forever locked safely within your heart.

I only know of you through your posts Drew, but from other posts here I can see that you will be sorely missed.
