where does your sig quote come from?

It's a variation of a quote I heard years ago: "An old soldier is a good soldier, that is why he is an old soldier."

A bad soldier doesn't get old.

Multi autem sunt vocati pauci vero electi. It means "For many are called but few chosen" *
and is a quote from the bible (Matthew 22:14), though I'm not religious in any way, shape or form. I'm using it as family motto.

I'm varying my sigs, as I like some variation in life :)

* and my Mum says I'm very special .. ;) :lmao:

My wife came up with mine when we sat one afternoon and the dog had just had her dinner and was curled up in front of the fire and was dropping of to sleep.

Mine is from Frank Lloyd Wright a famous architect 1867 - 1959
I read it in a book of quotes years ago and always remembered it. It seems to sum up Bushcraft perfectly for me anyway. Study nature.......... and you'll know what is what, and be able to tell soils, water indicators, what plants are useful for medicine, firelighting, food, etc. Love nature .............well you've just got to havn't you? 'It's the greatest show on earth' according to Tom Brown Jr and he's perfectly right. Stay close to nature it will never fail you............... If you've studied well you should be able to get what ever you need when ever you need it. Either easily or with a bit of work but you'll be able to get it. If anything I'd add respect nature but that's not the quote :)

I think he also came out with something along the lines of "at least doctors get to bury
their mistakes, architects can only advise their clients to plant vines" which always
made me chuckle.

Eric M's sig is very good.

Mine is part the Scout Associations current tag line and part me:rolleyes: - Have spent too much time around picky people that that is one of my constant cries now! and it seems to sum up bushlife to a tee!

I spotted mine when I was reading through the Gransfor Axe book. Seemed appropriate. I like to change mine from time to time and am looking for another at the moment. Too many good quotes out there to stick with just one!

I'm afraid i have to give myself partial credit for my sig, a rare moment of clarity when i went insearch of myself. I went to the top of a large mountain a long, long way away to be able to find myself. I did, forgot to exchange contact details and have since lost touch! Still, when it happened, for those short 45 second's, it was beautiful!:)

My Dad always said it whenever we were using a knife for anything. As we spend so much time talking about knives on here it seemed kind of appropriate.
There was a list of all the bushcraft quotes in the general chatter forum about a year ago. I can't remember the thread title though..

I've loved the John Muir quote in mine for ages. It reminds that just going out is a lot of what bushcraft should be about. In fact, he's a pretty inspirational bloke all round, really. There are a barrel full of great John Muir quotes. How about this one from the link above...
This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never all dried at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on seas and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.
I agree about Eric's quote too. Great, very true sentiment, that.

My one credits the author ;)

I lifted it from the Acts of Random Kindness site when looking through quotes.

On SotP my current signature is "Its nice to be nice" which I think may be my own and was something I said once and thought was one of the few sensible things I may have said.
