My one credits the author ;)

I lifted it from the Acts of Random Kindness site when looking through quotes.

On SotP my current signature is "Its nice to be nice" which I think may be my own and was something I said once and thought was one of the few sensible things I may have said.
I'm not sure if it was the first time you said it John, but I remember that in a PM from you. It has always stuck with me

My quote is of my own making. It is regrettably poor English  I know, but proper grammar seemed to make it longer and wordier.

I came up with it after reading Deep Survival by Laurence Gonzales, and, oddly enough, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. It has implications for travelling in the bush, but also for life and career choices in general. At least I think so :p

I`ll be honest mine is completely random and was found after 5 minutes on the web, I don`t particularly like Woody Allen so I`ll probably change it again soon.

Mines just my cynical approach to modern life in which I really don't feel I belong:D

I was gonna use this but it was too long.....

'When I look back I see the landscape that I have walked through but it is different. All the great trees are gone. It seems there are remnants of them... but, it is the afterglow inside of you of those you met who meant something in your life.'

If anyone knows who said that I will be surprised :)

Gord Downie, of the Tragically Hip. Iconic Canadian rock band. Although I'm actually a fair bit east of the meridian in question, it lends itself better to a quote than, say, "That night in Toronto with its checkerboard floors, riding on horseback and keeping order restored", because that barely makes sense even to me.

No I haven't seen it, sounds interesting, I'll do a google.... a-ha!

A Year Along the Abandoned Road is a Norwegian short film from 1991 directed by Morten Skallerud. It was shot on 70 mm film and shows a whole year passing by in Norway's Børfjord in just 12 minutes. The camera was moved slightly each day, and so the film gives the viewer the impression of seamlessly travelling around the fjord as the year goes along, each day compressed into a few seconds. The film is traditionally the opening movie of the annual 70 mm film festival held at the Cinemateket film club in Oslo.

The film won the Norwegian Amandaprisen for best short film in 1991, and the Grand Prix at the Tampere Film Festival in 1992.

The band a-ha used footage from the film in the music video for their song "Lifelines".

Apologies for wandering off the path here as I'm sure this wasn't meant to be a thread about music :D

Thanks for that though will hopefully get to see it at some point :)

Oh, for the wings of any bird, other than a battery hen. - Spirit of the age by Hawkwind

Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate = entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily'. One of the many versions of Occam's Razor. In other words keep it simple

BR - people have spent years trying to get a definative translation of that. scriðan anywhere from to stalk to to wander and even to ghostly glide. Don't you just love Old English and the cintectual aspect.

Looks like I did learn something at school

honestly, I have no idea, there are though a couple of options,

1: I had a moment of self awareness, clarity and insight
2: I read it somwhere and subconsiously remembered it (this is far more likely than 1)

either way it not only makes sense to me but rings true as well.

Cheers Tim:cool:

Well Mr Turnbull we must be related!
My mothers family were Berwick Turnbulls and our family crest features the same(ish) Bulls Head.
Three Bulls Heads Sable, (facing left in a triangle - two upper one lower) on a field Argent with an ear of Barley Vert (central) - anything like yours?

When I was little we used to live next to some Turnbulls, I think they were from
Canada.

Anyway, I was just thinking that I probably like Toddy's sig best of all - you're
never too old to have a happy childhood.

hummmm student of heraldry,....black bulls, white background, green barley. I wonder what other coats of arms and or crests folk have, but rather than hijack this thread I'll start a fresh one when I've got a bit longer. Always found heraldry quite fascinating.
Cheers Tim
