just for tooling on etc. i have seen most leatherworkers use granite but many use marble too. i have needed a decent surface to absorb the impact for ages as i dont want the vibrations from hammering/tooling running down the hull of the boat :)

put a layer of 5mm neoprene under it, it will deaden any vibrations nicely. Its what i have under mine, tried a few things and thats about the only thing that really works.

I got.

A set of smellies (oh)
A mercifully small pack of Quality Street. (had enough of them at college; all the tutors had a tub to pass around.)
A Historical Novel. (cant recall the title) Which I am assured I could do as good a job as. (Me being no fiction reader...or Writer...)
A big green beer bottle -empty. (I am going to decorate it for an arty friends present.)

However I have more to come when I visit relatives on my birthday.

We had a terrific dinner though. (After friend threatened to riot if presented with a `whole` big chicken to her very self; Me and Dad are Mithratics so we had beef. My friend can only eat white meat due to iffy stomach. She eats chickens ike the fox does and is tired of them. I assured domestic peace by getting a goose breast from my secret stash.)

And Dad and friend were delighted with their presents. (I suspect her 1lb box best turkish delight will be gone by the morning. it was `very good` turkish delight, the sort you betray your friends to the Ice queen for.)

Dad made the last of my mincemeat into mince pies. He is wonderful, is my father.

A new notebook with oodles of pure virgin cartridge paper for a years worth of plans, homespun slippers and lush bombs. Marvellous :D I'm going to print out this thread and burn it up the chimney as my Santa letter next year though :D

And I've saved enough to buy my laavu fabric though, result :)
