just for tooling on etc. i have seen most leatherworkers use granite but many use marble too. i have needed a decent surface to absorb the impact for ages as i dont want the vibrations from hammering/tooling running down the hull of the boat

put a layer of 5mm neoprene under it, it will deaden any vibrations nicely. Its what i have under mine, tried a few things and thats about the only thing that really works.
Unfortunately my wife has just remembered that she also bought me a bottle of vintage port, so I have been forced into sitting here drinking some.
It's a terrible burden, but I'm facing it bravely
