What wildlife did you spot today?

Not sure if this counts as wildlife or livestock, anyway a couple of our honey bees foraging on one of our eucalyptus we grew from seed. I've added a few pics of the euc because the flowers attract a wide range of bees, hoverflies and other insects and it flowers at a useful time of year. It must produce a decent amount of nectar and pollen judging by the bees, also flowers at a young age and produces viable seed.

What is the Honey like? Sounds like it could be quite different.

We had a pair of Green Woodpeckers in the garden today. They spent their time at the water supply / little pond, and digging in the grass banks we have, retreating to the trees when disturbed. They are great to see and hear, like a yellow/ green flash when flying, and quite showy when browsing. Large too when compared to the Greater Spotteds we get on a nearly daily basis.

I doubt we will notice. Strangely the flowers don't really smell of anything, the leaves and bark smell strongly. We also have a fair bit flowering so a good mix going into the hives - bramble, privet, knapweed, and white clover (anyone else noticed more white clover flowering this year?)

It reminds me, I keep meaning to plant some manuka bushes.

Thank you for taking the time in your reply, appreciated.

Spent a while looking at the eucalyptus last night and it seemed to have a stronger smell (still nothing notable, more like thistle) and it was attracting a good range of moths. Today it has quite a wide range of wildlife including a few dainty hoverflies

Well I never. I have just had two long eared owl fledglings in my camp, They made a right racket. I found one of them with a torch and was able to stand 5 meters away and just watch it. I saw the 2nd in flight. I have never been that close to this species in the wild before. Well folks that has planted me well and truly on the earth and in the moment. I cannot describe my gratitude for seeing that. Awesome x

Those wings are an amazing feat of evolution.
Incredible aren't they.
Great photos. Are they from your new camera?
Yeah, still trying to figure it out. I'd love to get a macro lens for it at some point (the prices are somewhat eye-watering). I've been using a zoom lens which does a pretty good job though.

You got a new camera too, didn't you? How are you getting on with it?

I was mind blown when I saw the price of lenses. When people say "Just get x" and then you look at the price of x and it's £2,000 just for a lens... madness.

I did! I've only used mine for video thus far, and only a couple of them. Planning on trying it out at the Moot next week though, for both photo and video. So far I like it, even if it is a huge learning curve from just pointing my phone at something.

When Canon started the R series of mirrorless cameras, the price of second hand EF lenses dropped. I started buying them for my APS-C format Canon (EF mount is compatible with EF-S) while saving up and hunting for a full-frame Canon.
The most expensive lens I've bought is a 300 mm f/4L IS USM that I got for €600. I also bought 1.4x and 2x multipliers. That should do just fine for wildlife photography in Namibia this summer.

Back to wildlife...
Late yesterday evening I spotted a Euplagia quadripunctaria
