Question for those that may know - How can I best ( if possible ) over dye this lurid bright red leather to something more low key ? Is it just a case of dabbing dye over the red or any prep work required?

Black might be doable. I think you'd use something like Fiebing's Deglazer (I think some people use pure Acetone) first, then dye it. Not sure what the quality/durability impact would be with that, my understanding is that it's not very good for the leather to do this to it and then redye, but there might be some more clevererer people who can correct me.

Thanks - I've no issue if it looks a little mottled and inconsistent , or possibly even ruffed up - just need to tone it down from 'Arts and Design teacher' Red level to a more 'Geography teacher on field trip' Black/Brown .

Oh, more things than you could shake a stick at, today.

Market day, mum arrived on Thursday, both kids are arriving tomorrow...

Milk, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, raw whole milk.

More cheese. Even more cheese.

Parsley root (Petersilienwurzel), parsnips, carrots, onions (both red and yellow), celeriac, chicory, leeks.

Button mushrooms, death's trumpets (Craterellus cornucopioides), king oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus eryngii), chestnuts.

Salami, smoked belly pork, boiled ham.

A pomegranate, clementines.

Salmon, prawns.

I've probably forgotten a few things...

Edited, to add that I went back out later for some beer, a ring for SWMBO, a stollen and three tins of creamed chestnuts...

Rechargeable, low voltage light bulbs.

I’ve had one running on low light for more than 24 hours.

They come with a removable socket and hook and so can be hung up in a tent. Absolutely no heat build up.

They can be operated via a touch sensitive area on the bulb itself or via a mini remote that could be useful once I’m zipped into my warm pit on a cold night.

Very impressed.

Edited to add:
It’s thirty hours now and the thing hasn’t gone out yet.

Edited again to say:

Thirty eight hours and the ruddy thing still hasn’t gone out. It’s set on the lowest brightness (a sliding scale, not steps) but I could easily read my Kindle in the tipi.

I’m going to bed.

I can see that being useful for finding my way back to my tent from the beer tent after nightfall...

I’ve been stocking up on spirits while it’s Black Friday. Bought a bottle of Aber Falls single malt whisky- very nice as an “everyday” tipple (not that I do have a tipple everyday.Lol). A couple of bottles of 10 year old Bulleit Bourbon, bought one, then another after tasting, it’s rather delicious, not usually a fan of bourbon, but this is really smooth and tasty. A couple of Rakis, one is Kulüp Rakı, should be £47 a bottle, but reduced to £34.98, and a couple of cheaper Yeni Raki 1937. A bottle of Ouzo 12- I do like my aniseed spirits. A bottle of delicious Italian Sicilian blood orange Malfi gin and a lemon one for my sister, a bottle of Greek 12* Metaxa, a 63% strength white rum by Wray and Nephew and a bottle of Diplomático Mautuano, Premium Venezuelan Rum, oh, and a bottle of Vermouth to go with the bottle of Tanqueray and some Campari to mix up some Negronis. That little lot should keep me going a couple of years! Oops, nearly forgot, a bottle of Japanese UKIYO Rice vodka, nearly half price at £21. Thought I’d go for a rather international selection out of interest, they’re all award winning spirits.
Sounds like a decent start!

A big bottle of Black Cherry and Vanilla Kraken (for fun - I’ve got serious rum anyway.)

Daughter suggested that it’s like putting a party hat on a viper :)

I went out again yesterday; with mum in the morning and alone in the afternoon.
Mercer's (elastic and eyelets with setting tool), baker's (bread and pastries), Indian grocer's (tropical Guinness, Bombay mix), grocer's (eggs, smoked trout, Belgian beers, also returned some empty bottles), organic mini-market (Shoyu and Tamari sauces, vegetable stock cubes, genmai su, pomegranate juice), supermarket (Greek yogurt, rum, gin, French beers, draught Guinness, bliny, salmon eggs, milk, stick cubes), corner shop (yet more French beer and Heineken). All in under an hour and a half.

Today we'll go to the market to pick up our meat order for Christmas day and to get something for tonight.

SWMBO made mince pies yesterday while I was out. This is just one plateful.
