Talking of spooky reminded me of a night a couple of days before I packed up.
I woke up about 3am to the sound of something snuffling by my head, just the other side of the tent fabric. Now the Serri nature reserve has a large poster featuring a black bear on it.
;As a big fan of nature programmes in TV, I remembered that bears don't always hibernate throughout the winter, but occasionally get up and go for a wander before going back to their den.
Several thoughts went through my head, blind panic being the first! However, the second was that I was warm and snug in my sleeping bag, we're all going to die sometime, and if you've got to go, being eaten by a bear has a certain cachet about it. With that thought I went back to sleep.
Sadly for the story, however, the morning reveals a host of reindeer tracks around the tent, so no bear after all. I remember feeling quite disappointed at the time!
