Another vote for the pacer poles - I've had mine for over 5 years and would buy them again without hesitation.

I like the locking mechanism the Black Diamonds have though.

Due to my tight budget, I think I'm either going for some karrimor's that are going for 29.99 in sports direct, or some Leki makalu's that are 35 quid in go outdoors.

The Leki's are slightly heavier and use the twist lock mechanism, whereas the karrimor's are lighter and use the flick-lock style adjustment. I'm still tempted to go for the Leki's though, just because they're a known brand and will probably be of better build quality.

The leki's also have a warranty, although maybe I could exchange the karrimor's at sports direct if they broke. Not mid way through my hike in France though!
