Whenever I walk up steep hills wearing wellies or ankle length boots my socks always seem to slowly work their way down and periodically need pulling back up. Any tips on how to stop this happening?

Do you pull your socks up over your trousers in wellies? That seems to keep them in place for me.

I do think that hiking socks/wool socks are generally better than thin cotton socks for boots in general, though. I've only ever had shoes/boots pull socks down when they were thin cotton.

American astronauts were taught 'sock etiquette' in the days when appearances really, really mattered. They wore sock suspenders to keep their socks pulled up and taut so that no flesh flashed when they sat down, especially in interview situations.
Sounds surreal, but the 60's /70's were weird times.

Anyway, you can still buy these, and apparantly they are comfortable to wear.

Failing that you could do the schoolgirl's option, we used elastic bands and folded the tops down over them to keep our socks up :)

I was going to say garter, or double sided tape! There does seem to be various little elasticated small belt type options which may work.

I'd start off with well fitting socks, easier said than done for me as I'm right between the too big and too small measurement of 8.5 - 9.

The one time you need zero gravity to be on your side and it still lets you down!!!

My hairy legs would protest, big time, at having to remove sticky tape! I won't even have the tiny Bandaid plaster after an injection!
