Yes, I miss hit just behind the head as i missed a branch but it broke in the middle where a small not has been. You can't see it in a pic, it's on the opposite side, a pooooor selection I must say, but I didn't noticed it before I've started.... You live you learn aaa..? :) Thanks for the tips.
 
Sorry to hear that Millius, small 'pin' knots are usually ok any thing more than a few mm might be a concern.

I'm sure the next one will serve you well.

I've read the old loggers would cut off the tip of the fawnsfoot - if they fell onto the end of the handle it would cause less injury - it also makes a stronger face to hit while hanging the head.

what a lovely bit of kit. i personally love the pitted heads over the polished ones, feel more rustik and look really nice. good job, somewhat more attractive than my axe haha!
