The banks of the Deveron.
I was talking to Alan about this blade material at the knife show - you can buy a non 'bushy' ie sliughtly different from the RM one for about half this amount.

He says although the blade is harder to make (hence the price) it is a much better blade than the 01 and has hugely better edge retention.

That's down to the nature of Damascus blades edges looking "toothier" under a microscope due to the way the carbides are formed, I think one of the reasons they hold upto the elements a bit better is because they are pattern welded using a certain amount of nickel, but the guys like C_Claycomb and Martyn would know better than I.

Ladder pattern, Odin's eye and a few other patterns are available as bar stock, but they are considerably more expensive to buy than normal O1. If the knife is cut from bar stock and then ground to a normal pattern I think the only major difference then would be the HT side of life, but could not say to be certain. Once again the guys mentioned above and obviously the guys from BB are far more qualified than I to make comment.

It is a lovely knife, but could I justify the cost??

I am sure its down to the individual damascus mix but i have not got on with the one i have since the day i put it together :(. I am sure the masters AW blades are far better but after trying some 01 recently i find it loads better to sharpen and the edge is a lot better for woodwork kind of stuff. I have had trouble getting my thunderforged damascus blade to take a good biting edge. It does take a shaving sharp edge but it just doesnt cut as well as others i have :bluThinki

Probably just me and appols for nichking your thread it still is a lovely knife :)
