That's another two parcels gone missing

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
A couple of items that was sent out to me last Thursday from Amazon via RM hasn't arrived yet, think an email is imminent. I ordered an item a couple of months ago which didn't arrive via RM too.

:cussing: Royal Mail bunch of :bandit: 's, used to have a lovely Post Office in our village, became a royal mail " partner service" last year... don't have claim forms, now have to drive to main office to complain. Either way I'm not gonna get the return goods in time for crimbo... this is what it feels like I'm doing :deadhorse: may just have to get medievil :viking: on their A###s.

Well better go defrost the car to drive through hail or sleet or storm ( may have to wear a balaclava - that should get them moving when I walk in ) and speak to them.

GB.

Umm, things arern't running smoothly, that's for sure...I'm reminded that i need to chase up an axe i sold which hadn't arrived after 8 days sent first class recorded....

Just think..there used to be a postal service where you could invite someone over in the evening that morning and you would have a reply by the afternoon.

Royal Snail is a joke and has been for years.

One thing I really do NOT miss about not being in online retail anymore is the stupid levels of lost items.

Average losses per month were 8 - 12 parcels!

Then they try to sting business owners by only paying out the cost price rather than retail price of an item so you lose out twice.

Oh brilliant! Here's their policy on lost items.

What happens if your mail is lost?
If your mail gets lost, we’ll give you a minimum compensation of 12 First Class stamps.
However, if there was something of value in your mail, we'll refund the actual loss,
up to maximum value of 100 First Class stamps or up to the market value, whichever is the smaller amount.
Please apply for this within 12 months.

"Maximum value of 100 first class stamps, whichever is the smaller amount." - What the hell am I going to do with 100 stamps?

"Please apply for this within 12 months." - Well, let's give it a chance to get there first eh? Is 12 months long enough?

But, Citylink claimed to have delivered a parcel to me last Thursday evening at 9.21 pm. Odd that, we were in all evening and never heard the door.
When I contacted the senders ( well known on line book retailer) they put me on hold for 25 minutes and said it had been delivered to a neighbour - signature unreadable.
So why did the delivery guy not klnock on our door, or post a card through if he had left it with someone else ?
The rage................

and now you know why Citylink goes by the epithet sh**ylink...
having bashed RM for a bit on this thread i must say that the 1st class recorded parcel i sent to globetrotter.uk yesterday arrived safe and well at his house today.
uncanny timing.

To be honest I dont think any of them are much cop this time of the year. They are all flying around like blue bottomed flies and customer service is terrible.

Upto press we have had:-

3 candle lanterns (not bushy ones ) from M&S for gifts all damaged.... DHL
replacements for these.......... also damaged...........DHL
the third lot are coming with Royal Mail!!!

1 hamper (gift for the mother in law) this is from John Lewis........ total waste of time 2 bottles of wine broken and contents soiled.......... citylink.

And swmbo said something for me from Alpkit was also missing this was delivered via Royal mail OR should have been anyway.

And I though going on internet and shopping was gonna save me some hassle!!! how wrong I was.

Stressssssssssssss

Ok, Ive got to stand up for Royal Mail employees here. I worked in the sorting office for several years and also as a temperorary postwoman when I rejoined a few years later via a temp company, plus my dad was a postie for 26 years so Ive a bit of an insight into what goes on behind the scenes.
When I first joined royal mail 11 years ago a s a 16 year old, I was given 2 weeks training to learn the job before even being allowed on the floor. My dad was disapointed with that because he got 2 months shadowing a postman when he joined them 20 years earlier. Over the years working there, the mail load increased and we were expected to sort 40 letters per minute which increased I think to 50 letters per minute (this is by hand throwing them into pidgeon holes with all the postcodes in the country on them) We were hired directly by royal mail back then
When I did some christmas sorting work for them a few years back, I was told royal mail were not hiring temps any more, i had to go to a temps agency and join as agency staff. I was the only person who was english in the temps who started, this wouldnt be a problem except many of the immigrant staff did not only not speak english well but could not read it either, they were asked to simply `learn the postcodes`.
I was then sent out to do a postal round, unlike my dads two months training, I recieved NONE! I was given two bags for two round which in the past would have been done by two postmen. it was put on a cart and I was given a hand drawn map of the route, which was wrong and I had to keep asking for directions. Half way round a bloke asked if I had put letters through his door, and I said ye and it turned out I was on the wrong street entirely. I wanted to finish the round to not let people down so I carried on delivering the letters until 6 pm, explaining to everybody on the route that nobody showed up to do the round so I was doing it for them. When I got back to the depo it was shut and because it was shut I could not write the hours I worked in the book and so I could not get paid for the work I did! Heaven knows how the none english speakers got on!
So please dont blame the postie, they are asked often to work under very unreasonable circumstances, the managers are driving it into the ground, probably being paid backhanders to wreck its monopoly.

I don't mean to blame the postie on the street Lindz, in fact our postie is a cool irish older guy who's always chirpy and up for a chat or joke. But I think it's fair to blame the system they have in place if multiple parcels can just disappear into thin air. Personally I've never had a parcel turn up stupidly late, which you would think should happen if it's misplaced and then found, my parcels just vanish apparently.

Not had any problem with parcels.. yet. However I did once get a letter that was finally delivered a year after posting.. hmmm

I couldn't agree more with the sentiments you express Lindsey.

Anyone hear the item on radio 4 this morning about the modernisation of RM?

The electric trolleys that don't fit in the vans, necessitating the purchase of a new fleet; the cycle helmet fiasco? What about the '1st emergency service for pensioners'?

Long live royal mail and it's employees

Dave

I too wouldn't dream of blaming the Postie, think they do a good job and all that I've spoken to have been good lads, the grumpy ones down at the sorting office are another matter.

That's even worse.

I had an argument with a supplier who said it had been delivered and they had a signature to prove it. When I checked it wasn't mine or the wifes signature but they wouldn't believe me without a fight.

Daughter just has same happen to her with a £150 camera bought for her other half's Xmas pressie. Thing is there are only 4 houses in her street :( and "nonoe has seen it" but they do have a signature:confused:.
After tales from a postie I know :o, I get proof of posting for everything as its lottery time at the sorting offices

I work in the retail sector and know if we lost anywhere near the number of parcels RM do we'd have gone out of business twenty years ago.

Would the government not bail you out with millions of £`s?

I have had several "sorry you were not in" posts meaning i have to drive near 10 miles to the depot. Funny thing is i didnt hear a knock, neither did the dog who goes bonkers when somone is at the door!

I have had parcels from sweden in less time than uk to uk posts.

I heard that on the radio also, personally I wouldn't mind paying a bit more on a stamp as long as they don't have to fire huge quantities of junk mail around to fire through my letterbox, the post office is a service that greatly benefits the nation and I could never see why it should have to make huge profit, I'm happy as long as it breaks even.
Same with the railways.

Given the experience I had last week, someone else might have your parcel. My assistant sprained his ankle and, whilst someone else drove him home, I went to the sorting office to collect a parcel for his sister, taking with me the 'sorry we couldn't be bothered to bring it' card and her passport.

When I got there, I handed the desk officer both items and he waved the passport away, saying "I'm not interested in that", and then handed me the parcel. A few days later, my assistant went to the same sorting office for yet another parcel for his sister and the same thing happened. Now, I can understand them assuming that I'm the lass named on the card, but I can assure you that he looks nothing like a 'Charlotte' !
