Friday morning was fine and sunny so I set off, but by Settle it was getting dark and by Horton in Ribblesdale
it was slinging it down and by Ribblehead it was turning to snow but by Gearstones it was back sunny again.
Walked along the Bridalway to an ancient stone footbridge spanning Thorns Gill, soon to be the infant River Ribble.
looking up stream from on the bridge you can see a swirl hole full of small boulders which as they vortex round and round
in the current drill ever deeper ( see posts 5 and 7 in http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47311 )
looking downstream from the bridge
As the track carries on it passes some fine glacial perched boulders I'm not sure if these are called erratics
with them being the same stone as the pedestal ( any one know ? ( bushwaker bob ? )
just over a slight hill the track leads to the ruined farmstead of Thorns
which was a good excuse to stop for dinner.Todays Menu :_
Pork Fillet bashed thin dipped in beaten egg then spiced breadcrums and fried in olive oil in an 8" cast iron frying pan.
Petits Pois with baby Carrots and mashed potatoes Wine was South African Pinotage and Shiraz
in a Lexan wine glass ( http://www.outdoorgear.co.uk/eshop.asp?desc=LEXAN+WINE+GLASS&wce=53700101&wci=product ) and a brew, kettle and pan
kept warm with a solid fuel tablet while Pork cooks
even at 13:30 it was still cold
as I made my way back with Ribblehead Viaduct acting as a marker
another successful "Tour" cheers all Danny
