Looking towards Next year and Activites..... as we descussed at the weekend... and trying to get more of a selection of Activities,
One thing that did come up was Flint Knapping and we have spooken about perhaps geting Will Lord to do a session for us...I have just sent an email to asking if he would be interested in it..
.. and cost.. bla bla bla..
Also after the Chat with the Deer Stalker at the weekend I have his number so will give him a call re a Game prep session..
..
If you have any Ideas for activites in the new year please come forward with them , and lets see if they are possible to get some nice meets going ..
Going to throw out some ideas for the sake of feedback...
Tarpology...
I would like to do a session (as a group) on tarpology... as there's always something new to learn in this area (different ways of pitching for different reasons, clever rigging etc)
I know that's not a "big idea", but even if you just consider those who are new to the tarp... it's a worthwhile exercise.
I figure each of us has something to contribute to each other's knowledge in this area, too, so as a "group activity"... it could be a very educational few hours.
Map Reading/Orienteering...
I have a good grasp of this already, but there are certainly some things I would like to learn beyond the basics. I know there are quite a few specialists in teaching this, so bringing someone in to do a session or two might be worthwhile if it's something enough people are interested in.
Tracking...
I've done a couple of tracking courses, and I have to say they're worthwhile! Plenty of independent tutors on the subject, so another one worth thinking about as a group.
Tree ident and uses...
A topic unto itself, but obviously also a valuable component of foraging for wild edibles. I can identify a number of trees, but there are certainly areas where I could improve (such as being able to readily identify the tree from the woodgrain, and from just the leaves, bark etc).
'Shrooms...
I've been exploring this one on my own (especially over the last couple of months). I know there are
lots of specialists in this area, and again - just throwing the idea out there - it could be great to bring in one of them to give us all some instruction.
String-making...
Seen it done and of course there's lots on YouTube, but nothing like having someone (or multiple people) experienced in doing it to give a group lesson
So, those are just some ideas off the top of my head... feel free to give feedback and expand on the suggestions
