Evening/morning all
just been out for a smoke whilst on night shift and the night sky looks amazing
orion is really bright and the plough looks fantastic, now to try and find some star/constellation charts methinks
just thought i'd share

i work in a residential home for elderly adults with learning disabilities and physical disabilities
must say i quite like night shifts but lisa's not so keen when i am on them

Hi Sam, was beautiful here tomight. Saddo that I am I have always loved walking the fields at night. I love going out at dusk watching the bats and owls and then let it get really dark and walk by moonlight. Especially when its a bit blowy after rain. The world is...clean somehow.

i'm on nights over next weekend so friday when i finish my late shift i am planning a nice long walk through the fields and woods around here, so as to refresh myself before another slog

It was a cracking night where I am too, only went out to have a cuppa and sat for a couple of hours just looking at the sky!

Even saw a couple of meteors to boot! Bonus, espeacially when the local bats started flying right above my head as they swooped under the trees

Hi Sam,

Its amazing when the sky is like that and your away from most of the light pollution. I was reading up earlier this year about the stories behind the stars which makes them come alive in a way.

thanks very much for that link it'll come in handy this weekend couple more nights coming up so fingers crossed i'll get the chance to indulge in a bit more gazing.

I was out two weeks ago camping at loch lomand and the night sky blew me away. I spent about an hour lying on the beach, smoking, totally awe-struck by the stars. I saw about a dozen shooting stars as well. Not seen such a clear nightsky in years. Absolutely beautiful.

If you don't already have it Stellarium is a must if you want to learn the stars, a software planetarium which enables you to view the sky from your back door or wherever in real time!

Its going to be a good night for viewing the stars round my way tonight,inflatable mattress on the lawn a few beers methinks and just gaze.

This is the place I like spending an evening, just sitting and liestening/watching. The rock juts out high above and across the woods and gives an amazing view and sounds carry from the woodland. I can make out three Tawny owl territorial calls and watch wildlife busy on the paths below, while bats fly below and overhead.

Nothing but thick cloud here last night. I couldn't sleep for toothache I've got at the moment so I got up at 03:30 for some tablets and popped my head out the window. Had some nice views on Saturday night in the woods though.

another good night for star gazing here, apart from the security light that blinded me as i was walking the dog gazing upwards.

I have a raft of those security lights - sorry mate - you do need 'em on rural properties though

i understand the need for the security lights specially in this area(we have a slight problem with people who like things that dont necessarily belong to them) dont stop em from blinding the innocent as well as the guilty though!
working tomorrow so nice cup of assam for me unfortunately
think i know what my autumn project is a bit more knowledge of the stars
