Never made one myself but I'm just about to so looking for some inspiration. I was kindly gifted an old stacked leather handled Estwing sportsmans axe. It's over 30 years old and has seen some hard use. The handle has perished over the years so I'm in the process of fitting a new one and tidying it up. I'm just about at the point that I'm thinking about a mask.

I'm sure some of you guys have some lovely hand-made masks. It would be great to see them!

Darren.

Nice project, we have a couple of Ex RAF emergency kit Estwings which I think are the same model, and they are great little choppers. I'll be interested in seeing folks masks as well, I need to make 5 for various sizes / shapes after having a binge re handling them.

Cheers!

Mine is nowhere near as fancy as Hamish's masks.

The axe head and handle I made myself on Dave Budd's axe-making course.

The mask I call Jason, and I've included my axe having a play in the garden with it...

And another with the axe working in the wood pile...

I openly admit the mask isn't a brilliant fit, but the axe seems to like it :D

Dewi you have too much time on your hands lol.

They all good, I think the green is my favourite too.

My only effort is cutting down an axe sheath to fit my hatchet and tying it off with some green paracord

Throwing/utility axe with a pry bar bottom chisel back and hammer attatchment with mask. Doesn't know what it wants to be and it's ugly but it works!
