I coyldnt find the rod you were mentioning, but I saw prices of some at 300, if its thats price then no thanks lol
But I think a salmon spinner would handle a conger strength wise.

I dont really know anymore, been reading so much about a variety. I was only going on the 10-12 as thats what im mostly used to.

And for most beach / rock / peir fishing that's all you need, I think you need to sit down and answer the following.

A] What is the most common distance I will be fishing at?
B] What are the most common fish I am likely to catch?
C] What style of fishing am I most likely to do, Spinning, Ledger, Float e.t.c.
D] Is this just for the table or for fun?

That should help you decide.

I have a 12ft Bass rod that i use all over unless its proper rock marks. Its useable with up to 5oz with care but 4oz is better, also use this for heavy spinning, 4oz with feathers for mackeral or bait for other fish.
