My old District arranged a bushcraft camp for the Jubilee weekend and asked me along to assist. This was a long weekend, camping from Friday to Monday afternoon, with predominantly younger Scouts; some of whom had never camped before. On Friday night the Scouts camped in tents, with the main activities starting on Saturday morning. We operated a base system, with Scouts moving between them and a couple of larger demo's for them as a whole group.
So, a picture paints a thousand words... A view of base camp...

For lunch we had fish. The Leaders had a salmon, expertly prepped by Mike Rushton from Tamarack Outdoors, who kindly volunteered his time (and his teams) to assist with the camp. The Scouts had trout, cooked in wet newspaper over the embers with sald and new potatoes.

For dinner on Sunday we had rabbit and chicken stew, with rabbits prepped by the Scouts, after a demo from Mandy...

The Scouts slept under tarps for two nights. They were shown how to put them up by the guys from Tamarack Outdoors...

This was a great camp, with the Scouts being given time to learn, and practice, lots of new skills.

I'd like to give a public thanks to the guys from Tamarack Outdoors, who brought skills, knowledge and experience, coupled with a relaxed teaching style, to the camp.

THANKS GUYS!
Simon

Similar to what I will be doing with my scouts at the end of the month, they will be making their own bivi etc and rabbit will be the main ingredient of the camp. Good turnout from the scouts.
