SUFFOLK BUSHCRAFT GROUP 2 NIGHT MEET: 1 – 3 NOVEMBER 2019
THEME – WINTER PREPARATION
Winter can be a challenging time when heading into the woods, skills are put to the test but can be a most rewarding time.
For this weekend, we will look at preparation for the challenges the weather creates in terms of shelter, fire lighting, equipment etc. As a group we can prepare the location, share skills, knowledge and equipment ideas.
LOCATION
Suffolk Bushcraft Group is a small adult group for those interested in Bushcraft and survival techniques, with access to a 10 Acre mixed Woodland in the South West of Suffolk near to Bury St Edmunds.
Our location is very quiet and secluded and lends itself to wild camping in Hammocks, Tents or Tarps within natural woodland. Access is about 1 Mile from a road and only accessible by foot across mixed terrain.
We meet on a Friday pm and finishing about midday on the Sunday.
Please Note - No arrivals after 9:30pm
NEWCOMERS TO SITE – ADULTS 18+ - BY ARRANGEMENT ONLY
Initial meet will be at Compasses Pub, Stansfield, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 8LN.
  • A meet time MUST be arranged with Kevin Jarvis as location is not easy to find.
  • Please Note - No arrivals after 9:30pm
COST
The charge per Adult for the weekend;
Adults - Up to two nights £15 per person - Please bring the correct amount.
DOGS
By prior request, Dogs are permitted at this meet and for the benefit of wildlife, must be under very close control (lead/extensions) at all times. This includes at the farm, walk in and the within all areas of the woods.
BEHAVIOUR
Our meets are good natured and light hearted with safety in mind. We aim to continue with self-regulation, if it does not, then any offending person/s will be asked to leave immediately.
DRINKING
You are welcome to bring your own alcohol; we ask that you drink responsibly so as not to disturb the peace and tranquillity of the venue and spoil the enjoyment of others. Care should be exercised around fires; however, drinking is usually reserved for end of day/evening with knives, axes and craft tools stored away.
FACILITIES
The Communal Area has roof shelter, a fire pit with a concrete base and facilities for open fire cooking.
Wood can be gathered from around the site, Dead Wood only to be used. No green wood cutting allowed.
You will require your own cooking utensils, seating e.g. fold-up chair etc.
  • Axes and Sharps - the use and carrying of axes are not permitted until the attendee has attended a Sharps Care, Safety and Use briefing.
  • No Personal fires
  • Personal Hygiene - please bring your own Hygiene kits (toilet roll etc.)
HOUSEKEEPING
There is NO Facility to leave rubbish on site or at the farm, please bring a Rubbish Bag for your waste and take it home; You Carry In – You Carry Out.

VEHICLE ACCESS AND PARKING - THERE IS NO VEHICULAR ACCESS TO THE WOODS.
Car Parking is approximately 800m away from the woodland in a working Farm Yard.
Parking is behind the Black Gates, not in front of them. Please Close the gates after parking.

The nearest Hospital A & E is a 30-minute drive;

The meets are about midway between Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds, in private woodland.
