Top quality Stoozie!!

I'm loving the file work...you inspired me to have a go mate, but alas my blanks are just sitting there all marked out. Onto cutting tomorrow :O)

Bri will love his blade if its half as good as Roxanne!! She's a great bit of kit mate, perfect weight and size, even for my wee hands!! Loving the scales too, and the mosaic pins, and the liners, and the leather cord....i just love it!!

Keep up the good work mateypopsiclebladesmith...

hahaha,...oooooooh i,m just glad you like her mate,....

i must say she was very balanced during the short time we spent together,...hahaha the beech went darker than id have liked but it worked out ok,...

Hey,..did you notice the little worm holes in the beech????

they came out when i oiled her,....adds a bit of charecter i thought,....

where is she now???..are you touching her????

Rich ,...

dont spend the money on a sander dude,..!!

this is all hand filed mate,....!!

its the files,....they must be harder,...like i said it nearly put me off altogether,...

get some flat stock and go again mate,.

Its flat stock Im using mate, its going through okay just a bit fidley. I tihnk for the next one Ill make a proper jig like you mentioned. Will try and get back on it this week :-)

Im at work mate otherwise i would be touching her!! ha ha

I did notice the little worm holes, i think they do add character!! I love the colour of the scales...im glad theyre are the way there are. the colour reminds me of an old bowie my old man had years ago. i tried looking for it but he cant remember where it is...

Next job (apart from finishin spoon, starting kuksa, weaving paracord and cutting out blanks) is to make a sheath...if im any good i'll make you one haha :lmao:

ha ha its cool man...one good return and all that :) besides, Rox (yeah thats right, we're so close I can call her that) deserves a nice sheath.

Hey PM your addy by the way!! got something being delivered soon and i wanna send something your way...

Definitely worth the cost of buying 01 if you want a looker isn't it ;). I still use files for strikers and workhorses though

yep!

but i,m the same as you, i still cannot pass up on the files,...hahaha

having a rummage last night in the back of me tool box revealed a drawer full of old rusty ones big and small,....

so i think i,ll have a monster annealing sesh (found some circular saw blades too) and try and cool them extra slow,....

did i hear that you can bury them in soil in a box to slow the cool right down,...???

would loft insulation work too?

cheers

Stu

Not sure about the loft insulation but heard of someone trying Rockwell can't remember if it worked). All the old blacksmiths have told me they keep the forge ashes and household ashes to bury hot metal in so it cools ultra slow and doesn't warp. If it does just reheat and hammer it straight again.
Worth remembering when dipping to quench that metal nearly always contracts more than it expands so the angle of entry (so to speak) can affect if the metal warps or not and which direction it bends
