I have read the FAQ on polls but can't find the thing to create it on this page. Am I mising something or is it a case of permissions?

i think you have to be a full member if i remember correctly.

Polls are generally a right pain. Everytime someone voted for an option, the whole thread would get bumped back to top. Because of this we kept getting threads that were years old being resurrected without new posts just because someone voted on an option. Then once it was back on the first page or so, it got more votes and you couldn't get rid of the damned thing until a Mod closed the thread permanently. Drives yer nuts it does, especially if you use the 'What's New' button a lot.
