Right, I think they've all gone!
Shall we hold a sweepstake on the number of limbs/lives/tents lost on the trip?

Minus 21 at Gallivare with we left this morning with lots of snow, lots of snow still on the drive up to Suorva but the guy driving us says it's going to get warmer as predicted

Just a quick update, we came away from the national park as the conditions were terrible, we're now holed up in Jokkmokk, it's white and cold, perfect, not remote, not perfect, but cold and white, group safety had to come first, we were flung into a survival situation from the word go, with not much in the way of camping spots or wood, we all (4) ended up in my tent for 2 nights with the temperature on the first night hitting -23C, we tried to find better locations but alas it was not too be.

Not sure I understand what was wrong with the conditions, -23 sounds perfect. Was it the lack of wood? That's never an issue for me as I prefer to cook on petrol and cold camp. Was there sufficient room to set up the tents properly? Some of the so-called forests that I've visited in Scandinavia were little more than scrubland, was this what you experienced.

The so called woodland s you say was little more than a dozen or so tress scattered here and there, not many places to pitch tents either, what wood there was was wet through and frozen solid, we had all been told there would be wood available, lucky a couple took along liquid burners, we may have gotten by but the second day it rained and warmed up, the lake started to get a level of water on top so a decision was made by those in the know to leave :(

Perhaps, not according to your plans, but I see it as a win nontheless...the knowledge gained cannot be found in any other way. It might not fell good..but it is all good, in my book

Sounds like my sort of luck with the weather. No point being miserable. You in the campsite or in a cabin?

Dave and Ash have had a cabin for a few nights, they have tonight and then they're in the tent, Chris and myself have been sharing a tent but hope to go solo today on a new spot outside of the campsite, met up with Gary, Debs and Damien and the guys are going to show us it today.
