Often in the Algonquin pine forests you find the softest moss...
I love walking barefoot in it...like reflexology...

We live in eastern Ontario just south of Algonquin Park, in an area
that has lots of wilderness, and especially lots of water; hundreds of
freshwater lakes; near home we often take overnight trips on the
local lakes...we have a few favourites...these pics are a mixture of
ones taken in Algonquin Park in early July, and ones taken on the
local spots.Over here we are having a bit of a warm summer compared to the last couple of years. The picture of the thermometer
is reading water temperature, believe it or not...the swimming is always good around here, but this year the water is extra warm.
If I find time to write trip reports, they usually end up on Sotp,
but I thought for a change I might share some stories here...
hope you like...

So we were out on this lake last week and we had the whole place to ourselves for about three days. The only person we saw was the Lands and Forests guy who stopped in on his rounds, hopping from
lake to lake; we see him a few times a year and he always takes time to chat...I get all the local info from him..where the eagles are
nesting this year...how many bears are where, etc....and anyway, he
had a funny story you all might like:
On this lake we were at, earlier in the season, a couple was camping
just across the bay from where we were. About 2am they awoke
because something was breathing on the tent...they assumed a
bear, just as anyone might, so they gave a shout to scare it off...
but it turns out it was a cow moose with a very new calf...the cow
spooked and ran into the bush but the calf headed straight into the lake, so the cow started bawling to get the calf to come to her,
running circles around these people's camp...that didn't work out
so she had to head out into the water and herd the calf back into
shore. So now there were 2 soaking wet moose rampaging through
the camp again, and I guess that was enough for the campers..
they paddled back across the lake at 2am and slept in their truck!
Hoo boy, hope they took pictures!

And it all happened right about where that sun is setting on the trees...

That looks fantastic. Take it you didn't have too many problems with mosquitos, etc?

Anyway, great weather, awesome scenery - no-one's jealous at all now...

Dammit! I need a canoe!

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments...don't seem to have much time to check out the forum lately...got a couple
more wilderness trips coming up soon so I'll be sure to charge the camera batteries..

What a beautiful place. You are certainly very lucky to have that scenery near you. Wish the water was that warm here.
