The feet look sufficiently huge for me to guess coot.

Hmm all the sensible answers are gone, so i'll vote for ostrich.
Although i wouldnt be surprised if it tuned out to be a coot or other watery bird.

This is a hard one the birds wet so the coulours are all wrong and i can't quite make out the beak but I'll put my mone on warter rail as well. Knowing the habitat your in that would fit quite nicley

Just a little one for you, if you "save picture as" in your thread on what type of bird it is, it asks if you want to save it as "Water Rail".
I thought I would put up the answer

It is indeed a juvenile Water Rail. Below is a picture of an adult I took during the winter.
Well done to those who got it right!

Hmmmmm...mixed feelings
Feel pretty smug that I got it right just from looking at the picture, early on, and not being into birds....
