wor kid and his pal used to park up on a side road near to loch ken and walk 2 miles to camp ,it was never broken into once !
but surely there's a bus to keilder ?

Nothing's happened to it yet and I don't expect it to really. I was thinking of taking a longer trip, possibly over three or four days, travelling through the forest from bothy to bothy; maybe spending a night or two under the tarp too. However, for that I'd need to arrange some time off and it would probably be more convenient to go on the train for that length of time.

I am off next Wednesday and wad wondering if anyone fancies a walk out somewhere?

or just a toby alang the tyne have some bait and a quick pint and back yhem alang the other side ? lol

Unfortunately, I've got to work so weekdays are out for me. Rather be out and about if I'm honest though.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not fit. Too much beer and junk food for that to be the case. I'm more than happy to go on an over nighter. Had discussed a multi-day with a mate a few weeks ago. Thought it would be a good idea when the weather warmed up, but before the midges come out in force. Kielder is just loaded with the little blighters in the summer months. They can make life miserable.

Hello there Gents,
I am a long time lurker and very very occasional poster on this site.I live in Burnopfield so not far from many of you. i Work plenty of weekends so dont get to many opportunities to get out and about but love it when i get the chance. I am in the process of teaching my 5 year old about the outdoors and so far he knows that Blackberries off a bush are lovely ( he wont eat them from Adsa though!!!) and smokey fires hurt his eyes !!. Must admit to being a bit unsociable (read grumpy bugger!) but hoping that may change. Will keep a look out for some dates i might be able to attend whether it be an overnighter or a bimble down the woods.

right... i shall refrain from suggestions of naked moon worshipping (boots optional)
and say i'd be up for a mooch and indeed kielder does sound good for an night stay. i'm sure between us we could arrange lifts/pickups etc.

does the bus go there ? im on me bones mate ,im on the rock n roll.lol

even better...

you can get the train from central to hexham for about £6 return i think not too bad

The new Kielder bus service (route 880) means that you can now discover Kielder Water & Forest Park without having to use your car. The convenient service runs on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Hexham bus station to Kielder Castle twice daily, all year round. For those travelling from further afield, it offers a direct link from the Newcastle – Carlisle 685 bus service, and the Tyne Valley rail line (Hexham Station). For your convenience the bus is equipped to carry up to three bikes. Passengers wishing to transport bikes are advised to call to book this service in advance (tel. 01830 520609).

Like I said, I'm up for it and I've got a motor. Going to Glasgow this weekend, but I'm up for a jaunt the weekend after, provided I can get hold of a warmer sleeping bag, which very much depends on a payout from iStock. I can get three adult passengers in plus rucksacks, but i may have already filled one of those seats. If I can't get a warmer bag I'd be up for a bothy trip.
