What sort of time are you planning for arrival at hethal on Friday, if I can alter things about. Junior is a typical teen now and want to go with friends over the weekend. Im trying to work out when im going to be able to join in. being a carer has its ups and downs.

Hi All

Hope all is well for Friday, just need to sort out food, I will do the evening meal, does anyone want to take up the challenge for Saturday evenings meal.

So who is coming so we can plan for food.

Kev will you be the sausage warrior again, they always taste good over the fire.

i will speak to Ben about Saturday lunch and lets not forget the most important PUD, who's bring the Pud.

For those haven't been before, you need to bring your own water, no taps on site.

Looking forward to the weekend and lets hope we don't get this weekends weather.

Any one need directions let us know and will put them in a post.

All the best

thanks globetrotter for the tip on using reedmace for string making. i was out in my kayak friday evening (when i say out, yes i was 'out', twice!) and by midnight had made 10.5m of cordage, i found it much easier than nettle, shame its not as strong, id post a pic if i was a techno wizz

oh heck, this is hard to commit to the weekend, it now looks as though i may be doing a 5k wild swim in the river bure on sunday so guess i should commit to friday night and saturday and if i say ok ill bring pud youd better tell me what youd like or youll get what i bring? hope im allowed to bring something ready prepared cos im not risking my culinary skills on my first outing. im thinking of a selection of flapjack, apple cake that can get eaten whenever, does that sound ok? if not you'd better shout

im doubt ill make 5.30 but will try, so need some instructions please, i see several areas of woodland in the area. 07776432571

i realise its not an organised affair but just need to check...... i assume i bring my own breakfast and lunch food, any drinks i want and my own trowel!!

Sorry guys :(
:slap::twak::surrender::naughty:

Can you spot the chair I made from hazel attached to the tree?
The new bigger ecokettle I swapped for some steel work went down well and got some use (on the fire as well)

Did anyone else have trouble with their fires this weekend? Ours took ages to light (even with meths and bbq matches) and then burnt out super fast. Usual wood and firepit etc used:confused:

phew.... a pretty full on weekend, thanks guys for the invite and the warm welcome

what did i learn??? where do i start....in no particular order... i learned

To use a fire steel to light cotton wool, birch bark, compressed blocks of something... (what is it GT?)
How to find dry wood when all is wet around you
How to feather a stick
How to whittle a spoon or even a splork!!
that I love sleeping under a tarp, open to the world around me but am distinclty less keen on the slugs that crawl all over my swag.... i mean... what do they want with me?!?!
Tinder fungus can be found on dead ash trees
How to wind rope tidily for efficient use next time
How to make an effective tarp corner with a stone where there is no eyelet
Dmapness in the air can frustrate even the most experienced bushcrafter
To prepack a kelly kettle so its ready for a morning cuppa, didnt try it but damascus, you betcha im going to!!
whilst there is frequently a most efficient way of doing something, a miriad of ways are actually possible, and all are equally valid. accepting the attempts of another, without comment or offering of advice, validates them as a person and encourages their zeal for knowledge. thanks kev
How to make a bushcraft splice
seeing a bushcraft chair being made against a tree trunk...... and not collapsing!
that GT lurks with a camera
that the generosity of my fellow human beings continues to fill me with awe and wonder

oh and since coming home... ive learned
that despite nettles being said to be good for weaving baskets .... and despite being a spinner and a weaver.... ill have to work on that one, further research needed
that hammocks can have a cosy cosy zipped in layer or a winged mat to keep one warm.... hmmmm need to experiment there i reckon.who's got what hammock wise for me to have a look at?
that heroditus reported all sorts of highly dubious information but was neverthelss a mine of information

ok thanks for all of that and more.... apologies for the learning credits I have forgotten to credit....

roll on the next one and the canoe trail camp out.....

oh and newbies, if you aint been out yet with these guys.... get braved and turn up, they are a ramshaclkle bunch of good intentions who love to share what they know
