This year I'd like to work out a way to earn enough money to live a realistic lifestyle (as in so I can still afford my house/car/necessities for my wife and I, with enough left over to be able to save a bit) without working for a big corporation, or ideally without working for someone else at all, and not be sat doing an 'office' job.

Not sure how realistic it is, but it's what I'm hoping to be able to work out.

I'm going to use my oap bus pass to have some adventures.
I've decided that I need to do a wild camp on burgh island in s Devon, also the cornish camino. Its only 13 miles, and will take me at least two or three days with my mobility issues, so more wild camping with minimal gear to carry.
Get rid of what I don't need, grow more veg, squeeze in another raised bed in the garden.
Laugh more. Smile at strangers, give a treat to any dog I see (with owners permission)
Forget I'm a pensioner and pretend I'm only twenty.:whistling:
Take up tai chi, in an effort to be more flexible,( I don't think I could cope with tai kwon do and shoto kan any more especially after a 30 year break from training, )
Try to ignore idiots.
Stop using tea bags, and brew proper loose tea in a teapot.

Nope.
I should have known not to take Tony’s bait a year ago.

Just a few hours to go and I’m unlikely to whittle a link in a piece of stick.

…….. but - I’ve carried through quite a few projects that weren’t on the horizon in January.

I have long held the view that:
Procrastination is the key to flexibility

I rarely lay out a plan for a project. I do a bit and let it evolve. This applies to everything from my personal philosophy to making a lantern out of a cafetière. I learn so much along the way.

I recommend a Brew Tea Co pot.
It has a very effective strainer built into the lid. It’s not the same as an infuser. The leaves are in full contact with the tea right up to pouring.

Get rid of a few more of my worldly goods?

Also the house.

Get new house in area close to work?

Work?

Pay a small amount of student loan repayment??

Trade in my Father for a cat?

Eat more Haggis?

Improve sling shot. improve my archery. Improve knife throwing (its my first week). Find all the plants on my 2025 list. Write another book, lose weight and most importantly pray for the humility and the selflessness to help others. That should keep me busy for a year. x

On the tea front my wife has a posh teapot strainer thing, its a faff to use.

I just use a cafetiere and bung tea in it when I want tea and coffee in it when I want coffee.
Its stainless so when I drop it on the floor I just pick it up instead of chucking bits off glass in the bin everytime I try and bounce it off the floor.

As far as new years resolutions are oncerned I reckon I'll just walk a bit faster. Easy one to do. Just pick the pace up a bit over my usual dogwalk.
I'm not into setting daft goals cos I'm feeling all done in after Christmas, do small easily achievable steps.
Then pick something else later on in the year.
Too many people overface themselves with New Years Resolutions and give up before Feb.

IMO like.

Definitely with you all on the getting out more and general fitness. Too many nights lying in a heap on the sofa staring at the telly !
More wild camping with my son after a couple of successful camps last year - already got a few sites in mind.
Also going to concentrate more on my leatherwork - I’ve got the basic techniques down, so I want to try some more challenging projects with a bit more design behind them.

there is a thought provoking discussion here on how 'motivation' always eventually fails!! When it comes to developing new habits eg fitness, strength training then the road to success lies in making these part of your ROUTINE eg walking to work, climbing the stairs instead of taking the lift. Dr Chattergee does 5 mins strength training EVERY after he gets up and is waiting for his coffee to brew. Also some interesting points about removing as many barriers to your goals as possible so that your exercise is as convenient as possible. eg For many of us the act of driving to the gym( not that I go to a gym) has the added barrier of an extra task( driving) If you get my meaning.

Work less, spend more time outdoors.
Drink less, eat better and enjoy life as best I can.
Oh, and replace some of my bushcraft kit I moved on some time ago .

Sounds like a fine plan. Best of luck with it.
