New Ventile coat. Opinions wanted

I saw an old version of the keela ventile falklands jacket on Ebay, and won the bidding! And now Im getting buyers cold feet.

Its an older style of coat now. Not your 'technical' saska taiga ventile jacket, or an anorak style. { beggars cant be choosers!}

What do you guys think, honest opinions please, plenty of you have had loads of ventile. Anyone had this one?

Im unsure about the lining. [Photograph at bottom] Its only be worn three times, before the owner got a barbour for dog walking.....according to the ad. So should be effective.

If it's a single layer ventile design, don't cut out the lining. Ventile works by soaking up water to swell the fibres, stopping water from passing through. the lining stops the "wet" outer from touching your inner clothes.

I was meaning I think the cotton liner will get wet from perspiration, and probably stay wet? Just a bit nervous i have not owned a ventile smock that has had a liner in before. Not buyers remorse.

£97? A great price indeed. A wool jumper under the coat will take care of most the damp, and the liner will keep the cold clammy wet ventile off the jumper.
I love my ventile jackets btw, as long as I've got somewhere to dry them out at the end of the day.

Looks like a steal. I have a country innovation jacket that looks very similar and it really is a great jacket, a bit warm in the summer, but great for uk winter and really does keep you dry.

Aye Up Dave,

It depends on how 'hard' you use the jacket and how well you look after it 'maintenance-wise'.

Relatively light, even moderate activity and there shouldn't be an issue re perspiration. (So long as you vent at zips/hems/cuffs!).

If the DWR coating is gone, in a good downpour the material should swell, close up and seal H20 out - and perspiration in!!

If you get the outer completely caked with mud/dirt, that defeats the 'breath-ability' as with any so-called breathable materials.

Add internal perspiration and that lining will get damp/wet - it might even take on an odour - you might not notice it but others will!

I've always wondered why anyone who knows about the properties and maintenance requirement of Ventile would make a garment with a non-removable lining in the first place?

(That stated, it is worth noting that the lining of a garment can sometimes protect the outer material from damage to a certain degree - I've seen this on numerous wax cottons over the years. And in the case of single layer Ventile a 'wicking' lining can spread both perspiration and 'bleed' through from the outer over a wide area to help evaporation).

You've defo got a bargain there - In your shoes I (or someone I knew was capable of it) would remove the lining and either re-vamp it as a zip/button-in lining or ditch it completely and use the Ventile as a shell layer with my then choice of inner garment dependent on my activities - making it a more versatile garment and much, much easier to look after.

It’s quite a nice looking jacket, to be honest I would just wear it a bit in different weathers and activities and see how you get on then make changes if needed or sell it on.

It it might be fine as is.

Size S according to the label, yet its a 48"-50" chest by the tape measure laid across the front.

If it doesnt fit, I'll put it up in members classifieds for the same price i paid.
I think I just got lucky tbh. Its not arrived yet.

Well chappies, this has just arrived, and i am absolutely over the moon with it. It fits like it was tailored. Really. The photos do no justoce to it whatsoever, it looks brand spanking new. Really does. Unworn in fact.

Absolutely love everything about it. Lots of little features not mentioned in the ad. Side fleec pockets, behind bellow pockets, inside lined zip. Little strm covers over every button. The attention to detail is amazing. The hood is amazing. Its got a hood inside the hood, which wraps around your face.

Its better than the others ive seen, and by that i mean the ones mates have got, and its better than my old sass jacket.

This s my completely flukey buy of the year. I just slapped in a £100 bid expecting to get slaughtered, and forgot about it, until i got the message id won it for £97!
What an absolutely brilliantly made ventile jacket. Im well pleased with it!

I think you could search for years and not get a deal like this on ebay. So i am well chuffed.
