I have given up on having a machete hung round my neck...

But it has no attachment system.

should I add a frog?

Sunny Wales!
I 'think' holes are normally put in blades (although its uncommon) to act as guides for paunching things... (possibly deer in this case)
A 2-3" stick or dowel would be inserted into the hole to stop the blade going too far in, rupturing organs as a slicing action is made along the belly.

Might be wrong though...

I guess it was done by the owner at the time, for whatever reason?
