Hello all,

I ran this one past Tony because it's an event that might be of interest in a
crossover kind of way but isn't about bushcraft as such. He said it was OK,
thanks Tony :)

You know me and my compulsive events listings - it must be the librarian in me.

I see we've discussed (and as far as I can tell rejected) the notion of a music
subforum but I'd quite happily welcome an events / talks / forays / courses
subforum.

Anyway...

Dinner@Dana: Extreme Science
18.30 – 21.00 Wednesday 8th November 2006

The Dana Centre

Join Dinner@Dana as we begin a season of extreme science. Explore the limits
of human endurance with scientists and survivors who have worked in some of
the toughest conditions on the planet.

This month Dr Dan Martin joins us from Xtreme Everest - a team of
mountaineering medics who climb Everest to study how our bodies are pushed
to breaking point. Find out how the world's highest lab can help treat critically ill
patients back home.

If you can't make it to this Dinner@Dana check out our upcoming event,
Extreme Science: Life in the Deep Freeze on 15 December.

This evening costs £13 per person, which includes a two-course meal and a
drink. To book tickets: 020 7942 4040 tickets@danacentre.org.uk

The Dana Centre, 165 Queen’s Gate, South Kensington, London, SW7 5HD

Café Scientifique:

Dinner@Dana is part of the Café Scientifique network; a network that has
spread throughout the UK from the first Cafe Scientifique held in Leeds in 1998.
Meetings aim to stay outside of the traditional academic context by creating a
relaxed and informal atmosphere in which everyone is invited to discuss
important and interesting scientific issues. These Cafes provide a place where
anyone can come along and explore the latest ideas in science, technology and
medicine.

Thanks for that Jodie. I had never heard of the place.

They have some interesting sounding things planned. Have you been to any of their events before?

Yes I've been to a number of their events and have contributed "technical
support" (pressing the PowerPoint spacebar to advance the presentation!)
to a couple of friends who did an event there. I tend to go for the sciencey
ones though (I'm involved in the science communication world) but I didn't
go to this one - hope you enjoyed it if you went.

I've been to a couple of Cafe Scientifiques as well but I most lurk in the
Royal Society and Royal Institution events :D

It's worth keeping an eye on this webpage if you enjoy public lectures and
events: http://www.lecturelist.org

Apparently Roy Lancaster is giving a lecture this Saturday in Shropshire
on trees.
