I have a few nice knives now and I am not storing them properly. I have Ren wax on them but I have them in their sheaths, which I know I shouldn't do. Some kind of a box would be nice - not bothered about displaying them.

Any suggestions please? Much appreciated folks

Should have searched the forum first of course - doh. Found a few ideas from a recent thread, mostly metal tool cabinets. Any new thoughts or links would be appreciated. Anyone got a wooden storage case ? I have several for my fountain pen collection but the drawers are too small for knives. The pen vs the sword!

That's a neat idea Dave, those are the Ikea drawers aren't they ?

I've got some up in the loft full of 90's clubbing tunes which I can't bring myself to throw away, happy days :)

I've got one out in the porch somewhere, another in the shed (I think), one in my pocket, nope it's on my desk.
Not sure where the machete is at the moment, probably stuck in a tree out in the yard.
I think there's a billhook on top of the kitchen cabinet next to a box of sugar puffs.
Oh, and one in my fishing pack covered in mackerel scales. Is doesn't matter though because it's stainless.

Mine get cleaned and rubbed over wiv a Marine Sentry Cloth after use, then put back where I know they are, and can be picked up and used.....

However if you have a collection........ ? Better off in a display cabinet? e-bay? :)

I've got mine in their sheaths in a Stanley plastic toolbox, along with various other sharps and sharpening stuff. Sounds like I'm not doing it too wrong then! Anyone going to tell me that the sheaths will eventually dissolve my blades, or should I just stop worrying about it?

I personally dont worry about it, all mine that have sheaths be they plastic, leather or other live in there sheaths all the time, only coming out to be used, or as i said gazed at in loving admiration!

Providing they are not left in their sheath wet or after cutting something acidic there shouldn't be an issue.

I try to remember to give them a quick wipe with oil when I get home but I do sometime forget and get the odd spot of light rust.

Rub it down with oil and it's usually good to go again. It all adds character in my opinion.

You said you put renwax on them before sheathing them? You'll be fine - that's put a layer between the knife and sheath.

Mmmmm... Tho if in a leather sheath this will get absorbed into the leather after a while...

I had a 6 inch Bowie that for some years was stored in a leather sheath in a tool-box with only slight pitting and discolouration, However if you were in a coastal or humid environment and the knife was in reasonable use I would re-oil or such every couple of weeks.....

In very humid environments yer leather sheath would disintergrate in a couple of days anyway....

:):) Talking Jungle here..... :):) Stainless and Kydex better...... :):)

Here are my knives...

The boxes did have a sponge inside but the knives didnt fit with it. Very sturdy and a nice carry handle.

My machete and axe are stored loose or in a toolbox as they are not used often.
