Throwing knives don't generally get hardened, to prevent them from shattering on impact, causing injuries. So the metal is probably not much good anyway to make "proper" blades. As throwing knives, I'd agree with Dave. Not heavy enough or big enough to be much good.

Just a random that looks useful sort of thing. My best tool for digging up some kinds of roots is a tack lifter that cost me all of £1.19 about 15 years ago. Wonder if I handled that smaller blade would it make a good bark taker-off-er sort of thing

Incidentally, as children we used to play a game where we threw trowels at each other pretending they were throwing knives. Then one lad needed stiches in his head, so they turned out to be more effective than we bargained for!

This is an ancient japanese gardening tool which was also used in times of war as a weapon, and was adopted by ninja.

Oh I do, I do it's a drop forged 4 and a half inch WHS pointing trowel.........except mine is now under three inches
It's actually an awfully useful tool for digging, scraping and lifting bark, but the edge doesn't sharpen and sometimes that's a good thing too.

Hi Toddy, 440 is a fairly typical stainless steel used for lower-cost blades. Not an especially good steel, but perfectly serviceable. The fact that it's advertised as "Toledo steel" is a throw-back thing. Toledo was the traditional 'home' of steel in Spain (Like Sheffield here) and was particularly famous for it's sword making tradition. They're basically trying to make out that the steel is something more special than it is in reality
