Hi i was surfing and stumbled across this song,
and thought it may come fairly high if there was a Bushcraft top ten:
(the lyrics even cover friction firelighting!):D

Iron maiden - the quest for fire:headbang:

"In a time when dinosaurs walked the earth
When the land was swamp and caves were home
In an age when prize possession was fire
To search for landscapes men would roam.

Then the tribes they came to steal their fire
And the wolves they howled into the night
As they fought a vicious angry battle
to save the power of warmth and light.

Drawn by quest for fire
They searched all through the land
Drawn by quest for fire
Discovery of man.

And they thought that when the embers died away
That the flame of life had burnt and died
Didn't know the sparks that made the fire
Were made by rubbing stick and stone.

So they ploughed through the forest and swamps of danger
And they fought the cannibal tribes and beasts
In the search to find another fire
To regain the power of light and heat.

Drawn by quest for fire
They searched across the land
Drawn by quest for fire
Discovery of man".

Does it have to be rock? The americans have so many great bushcrafty songs because they had a land that was open and free which they entered as pioneers, homesteaders, settlers and wanderers alongside native people while we lived cramped surrounded by private property owned by our "betters".

Listen to the spirit of this song by the great Woody Guthrie - and just try and imagine he was singing about our country - and not the USA.

I got my gear in my pack
I got my pack on my back
Today's the day I'm going camping

Just got the goahead sign

The weather's gonna be fine
Today's the day I'm going camping
I'm gonna pitch me a tent

Won't have to pay any rent
It looks like ev'rything is "A O.K."
As far as I can see
I think it's gonna be a perfect camping day

The trees and animals
And clear blue skies
A waterfall comes tumbling right before my eyes

Birds that fly

Above a mountain stream
It's absolutely perfect better than a dream
Peace and quiet

Where the Good Lord smiled
Fields and fields of flowers growing wild
This is
Just where I belong I'm a mother Nature's child

It's time to hit the trail
To hit the hill and dale
Oh, I love hiking in the mountains

It's great to reach the snow

And see the world below
Oh, I love hiking in the mountains
Each time we stop to eat

We get to rest our feet
And we'll make it if we take slow
'Cause the best way to climb
Is one step at a time and hicking is the only way to go

I got my gear in my pack
The trees and animals
It's time to hit the trail

I got my pack on my back
And clear blue skies
To hit the hill and dale

Today's the day I'm going camping
A waterfall comes tumbling right before my eyes
Oh, I love hiking in the mountains

Just got the goahead sign
Birds that fly
It's great to reach the snow

The weather's gonna be fine
Above a moun-tain stream
And see the world below

Today's the day I'm goin' camping
It's absolutely perfect be

As much as I love Rock it has to be A Country Boy Can Survive hank williams jr
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4s0nzsU1Wg

The preacher man says its the end of time
And the mississippi river she's a goin' dry
The interest is up and the stock market's down
And you only get mugged if you go downtown
I live back in the woods you see
My woman and the kids and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun a rifle and a four wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain't too many things these ole boys can't do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

[Chorus]
'Cause you can't starve us out and you can't make us run
When we're them ol' boys raised on shotguns
We say grace and we say ma'am
And if you ain't into that, we don't give a damn

[Verse]
We came from the west virginia coal mines
And the rocky mountains and the western skies
We can skin a buck and run a trot line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in new york city
He never called me by my name just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the broadway lights
And I'd send him some homemade wine
But he was killed by a man with a switch blade knife
For forty three dollars my friend lost his life
I'd love to spit some beechnut in that dude's eye
And shoot him with my ol' forty-five
'Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

[Repeat chorus]

[Verse]
Were from north california and south alabam'
And little towns all across this land
And we can skin a buck and run a trot line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
Country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

"In The Days Of A Caveman"
by The Crash Test Dummies

When you go on camping trips you're stuck right out in nature
Foraging the forests like a primate
Using sharpened tools instead of hotplates

Your thumb and forefinger supposed to show you're not a wild beast
You can hear their noises at night time
They don't have to keep a certain bedtime

See in the shapes of my body
Leftover parts from apes and monkeys

Sometimes when I lie awake I hear the rainfall on my tent fly
I think of all the insects that are sleeping
And wonder if the animals are dreaming

See in the shapes of my body
Leftover parts from apes and monkeys

In the days of the caveman and mammoths and glaciers
Bugs and trees were your food then; no pyjamas or doctors

And when I finally get to sleep, I dream in technicolor
I see creatures come back from the Ice Age
Alive and being fed inside a zoo cage
