Dammit people! The jealousy in me is becoming unbearable. I know I said I'll head out with you lot next year, but the desire to spend all my savings on cold weather gear is killing me! Promise me this'll happen again, so I dont go crazy in the meantime?

On a new journey
Definitely something on for next year; what, and where however will need to be decided. I suggest we start as soon as we return from the Jokkmokk trip.
Wherever it is will need to be realistic and affordable. So have a think people because it will need to be planned and so forth.

Jokkmokk is next year, but we know what you mean.

One to consider is Rovaniemi in Finland, it's got easy access, a network of Laavu (what's the plural form?), somewhere to camp, somewher to hang if that's your thing, ski tracks, museums etc.

Sounds interesting.

As Damian says, I'll be up for planning something for Winter 2013/14 but I'm focussed on Jokkmokk at the moment.

Will add it to the list. might be better to make a list on the 66,33,44 group page

Where's that?

OK, time I went 'public' I think, as I've just booked my flights !

I've exchanged a few PM's with Da, and I *think* I've managed to reassure I'm not a total liability ! Given I've not yet any arctic experience.. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time, and I feel its an opportunity I shouldn't miss. So I hope you guys will look out for me ! I've booked a cabin at the campsite 2nd-10th to serve as basecamp, and hope to camp out for a few nights. Looks like Lennart and his bro will be sharing the cabin for some of my stay, and they may stay on there after I depart.

I've some kit to organise, last night a won a pair of Ojibwe snowshoes, which I hope will do the job. Also need to look at sleeping bag and boots.

Likewise ! :)

Picked up my snowshoes today, they're lovely old ash and rawhide things pretty big 12x60, but I am 6'2" and ~14 stone. Got 'em off the original owner, from kirkby stephen of all places, he'd got them in the early '80's in canada, paid $48 according to original receipt ! They've hardly been used but will get a fresh coat of varnish. Hope they come in handy on the trip, but very much depends on what we get up to.
