Earth- for awhile longer...
I had to reformat my hard drive-
Itunes downloaded and installed
When I plugged in my ipod into the base- I got the option to sync but sync would erase my ipod...

I have copied all the music files onto a separate drive.
Can anyone tell me how to overcome this?

advice appreciated- thanky you

HI there,

You can disable Automatic Synching in the Preferences under Devices if you have Itunes 9.

Regards

Darren.

thansk everyone but I did not explain properly my fault
1- my notebook has been erased and formatted
2- itunes 9 is now re installed
3- I have manually copied my music folders back onto my C: drive
4-I am trying to authorise the computer again but apple does not recognie my email address or password or both - no idea why

If I say yes to sync- it will erase my ipod :( (not iphone I do not have an iphone) and since I donated most of my cd's...

ok ay what you need to do is uninstall and delete itunes then once done make sure all music is in windows meida player format or other format to itunes then install itunes again and then import all music and start from scratch with play list and the such like. the reason for this is that you have disconnected you orginal itunes from apple and it wont let you do anything so just re register cos i did the same and it worked

I have just done this from my main comp to my laptop. I had copied all the music folder onto a seperate hard drive then moved the music folder to lap top
In music folder should be an iTunes folder that has all the mp3s on. then in Itunes I did file>add folder to library.
This then put all music into iTunes. when I went to sync it said I had a list from another computer and that it will replace the playlist with the new one but seeing as it was all the same no problem.
Hope that helps.

Bert ,Read the whole link I gave you .It tells you exactly how to do this.
I had no music on my computer after a re-boot and no itunes either .I re-installed itunes and then followed the instructions.Hey presto itunes is now full of All my music again, all 70GB of it.

thanks guys- stiull trying ..and failing
Sapper - seems my itunes want to 'contact' apple' keeps wanting me to register but i can't rememebr which email or which pasword I used- was too long ago..

edit:
all sorted thank you- the solution is:
Copy music folder from back up into the correct place on pc ( mine was in the wrong place)
drag & drop each sub folder into library
set auto organise
contact apple to get previous username & password
Sync
all music, all of 382GB now safe and sound:D
