I made a cover for my Swedish Mess Kit clone (Pathfinder PFM40)

I just got this kit because it’s stainless steel versus the other 2 military surplus ones I’ve had in the past that were made in aluminum.

I made a quick and simple cover without a sewing machine, but next time I need to learn how to sew.

it’s ugly and I doubt the draw string seam at the top will last and when it fails, I’ll ask someone to help me out and sew the seam for me.

That looks sound, sturdy and a neat tidy job.
I don't think your top seam will fail, not it you have enough fabric there, and it looks like you do.

For hand-sewing like this it's worthwhile using backstitch.....it's really a strong line of loops.
Somewhere I put up an illustration a while back. I'll see if I can find it.
