i know the main idea of bushcraft is make it yourself but on this occasion i think it is a job for professionals.

what i need is a company that can produce somthing similar to the response pack/US deployment bag but made from british army standard materials. ie 1000codura. I have tried dragon suppliers but they are not able to help. anyone any ideas?

failing that anyone got a heavy duty sewing machine (and know how to use it?

Snugpak used to make a sports holdall size verison of the Responce pack - may about 45l. Ideally for holidaying.

If you need bigger look at thier kit monster.

I'm sure Aguille Alpine could make you smothing to order - might cost a bit though, but it will be bombproof. They already do holdalls.

Don't most squaddy towns have a local 'heavy tailoring' service? There's certainly some od established firms that know what they're about in regards to custom military kit. Perhaps try arrse?

Have a word with Aiguille Alpine if you are in the UK (you could be anywhere in the world). They apparently make stuff for people ranging from mountain guides to MRT teams (rucksacks with special oxygen can holders, etc.) so I reckon they can make anything up. I do know they have 1000d cordura as it is what they use on their standard sacks. Its available in red, yellow, blue, purple and black as far as I know. I was there last friday talking about a customised climbing sack for myself so I do know they are quite flexible with what they will do. I saw a medic sack on the steps from the upstairs production area when I was in their shop. BTW the guy said that they made some stuff for people in army as part of a conversation on heavy load carrying (about 120LB plus I think he said how it got onto heavy loads when I was talking about a sack for 8-9kg 1-2 week loads I don't know). I still haven't worked out who he could mean but it was for a part of the army based in a particular part of the country and I am not saying where in case it was not meant to be common knowledge. I do believe some regiments allow personnel to get their own kit.

Just an idea though Aiguille do have a good rep among people who use their sacks day in day out in the field. I do know I can get a custom back length climbing sack at about 50 litres which is abot 1kg in weight capable of taking a heavy multi day climbing load for about £85 - £95. That is quite cheap really compared to Crux at £120+.

SASS are in Sylvester street, Lancaster. Do they have a shop on site? Perhaps since I live and work near and in Lancaster I suppose I should walk round there and take a look.

Back when I wore DPM, they didn't have a shop...but a quick phone call and they were always willing to see me face to face.

I emailed combat.netwith no reply. Maybe my only option is learning to use a sewing machine and get hold of the materials myself.

so with that in mind anyone got any ideas where to get 1000D cordura fastex clips and 25mm/15mm webbing?

cheers Chinook

Chinook, in East Anglia. Have you tried any of the military SE sections. They will usually do a "gash" (non official) job for a few beers. Do you know any military fellas down that way that can help?
