A few months ago, we acquired one of these:

A scruffius, mongrelus, terrierus. A bit nervous, anxious, and under-trained, but a nice little dog. He settled in well.

Today he went to the grooming parlour, and came out looking like this:

He's a Patterdale Terrier! Much to our surprise. The new look was a bit of a shock initially, but it quickly grew on me, and I think Jax is very pleased too, if only because he can now see where he is going. :D

He's a bonny lad, suits the haircut too. Terriers are my favourites, full of life... and a little mental.

Sent via smoke-signal from a woodland in Scotland.

Spitting image of my old terrier/poodle/sheep mutt, especially when shorn. They may be small in stature but, damn me, terriers have big characters. He looks fantastic in both his guises

I looked up the breed characteristics: hard to socialise - check; strong for his size - check; strong instinct to pursue anything that moves - check; bold and willing to tackle things way beyond his capabilities - check (cows & horses); masses of energy - check; probably unsuited to being a sedentary household pet - well, actually he's ok. Hasn't chewed anything (much). He's the rough coated version.

His haircut has not affected his ability to snore though...

He's actually cut a bit short, especially on his head, because he was a bit matted. We had been incorrectly advised not to brush him. That will be corrected from now on.

Think he suits his haircut, looks more purposeful when he's trimmed.
Both mine had coats that didn't need trims or primping. Irish Wolf Hound & smooth coat JRT so I got off lightly.

A friend of mine has a patterdale. Tenacious hunter? His is a stone cold killer, damn thing literally chases squirrels up trees.... i mean, literally goes up after them. God knows how, but she does, completely relentless!

:lmao:

I've heard they are extremely tenacious hunters? Dont be surprised if he flies into a hedge, and turns up with tea..

All I know is he charged the neighbour's cat, and to this day I still don't know how that cat got away! He was falt out sprinting and the cat didn't see him until he was about a yard away. They disappeared around a corner. He came back a minute later looking enormously pleased with himself.
