Hello from the edge of the Fiskars forest in southern Finland. I'm an British national living here with my (Finnish) family, as I've done since 1998. I look out of my kitchen window onto twenty five kilometers of nordic forest, complete with numerous lakes, fantastic trails and varied wildlife - deer, fox, marten, lynx (well, footprints anyway, I've never seen one), red squirrel, badger, cranes in abundance, a rumour of a bear and even a wolf ("rumour" being the collective noun for these creatures this far south, I expect
). I didn't arrive as an outdoor person, but have become it over the years, on the basis I suppose of "if fate gives you lemons, make lemonade". Began extending my daytime rambles into overnight trips, most recently in mid-winter. Now realise that I am hooked. I like to take my son along (13), though he baulks at tarp and bivy stuff in the snow - at the moment, anyway
. Having enjoyed the forums of this and other backpacking/bushcraft sites - and learned masses from them - I thought it was time to sign up. Okay, that's it for now. Anyone else happens to be in Finland, maybe get in touch? Cheers.
